Receipt number not found.

Good morning!

My fiance had a text yesterday that our case was received. I think the excitement got the better of me (even though it is still early stages) and I went to check the case status online.

Once I entered it on the USCIS website I got this message:

"Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283."

I have seen from other posts that this is common but I didn't find any follow up on the topic and whether the people that posted about getting this message were eventually able to see their case online or if it was viewable once they received the hardcopy NOA1 in the mail?

Also fellow VJers, with the weather that seems to be going on over there I think it might take a bit longer to get our hardcopies in the mail! My fiance is from Louisana and is expecting a big snow storm later today and of course they never have snow and aren't very prepared for it, so apparently the state is just coming to a deadlock!

Filed: Timeline

They put our case # in the system two days after we got the text message. I think the noa1 email says to give it until you get the paper noa1.

Correct. It takes a few days for it to show up in the online system at: www.uscis.gov. As stated in the email you received:

With the official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) you may visit www.uscis.gov where you can check the status of your case using My Case Status. We suggest you wait until you have received your Form I-797 before checking My Case Status.

Thanks for the replies!

My fiance just sent me the receipt number so I didn't get the whole message about waiting oops!
