Wrong name on Visa

Hi all,

We completed everything by December 8, 2013, and My wife arrived in our POE last month as well. She has everything, and all seemed well, but we hit a little snag while applying for a SSN. It seems that there is an issue with her name.

For example her given name is: John Jacob

Middle Name: Jingleheimer

Last name: smith

but we checked her visa, her given name was recorded as:

John Jacob Jingleheimer

Do you know how to correct this issue? We wont be issued a SSN as they have to confirm with LA office, of what the correct name is.

I had the same situation. I applied for SS and when the SS employee checked my record in their system, my middle name is included in my first name. I guess that's how CBP encoded it at POE. rolleyes.gif

Anyway, aside from my passport and visa, he asked to see other proof of identification. I gave him my original NSO birth certificate and NSO marriage certificate (because I'm already using my married name). He photocopied the docs and gave the original back. He said something like DHS should correct my name on the system and it could take a month before I get my SS number/card.

Gotcha, so you still havent recieved your SSS card? When did you apply? It sucks having this problem, and its such a blocker, because you cant get work or a drivers license.

On another note, for Filipinos issued an immigrant visa, the names reflected are the GIVEN NAME and LAST NAME.

Our middle names are included in the "given name" as shown on the visa.


Gotcha, so you still havent recieved your SSS card? When did you apply? It sucks having this problem, and its such a blocker, because you cant get work or a drivers license.

I applied the SS last January 16, 2014. Still waiting.

So, I guess its a recurring case. Our MIddle name is included in the given name. That sucks. No wonder on POE, DHS makes the mistake of encoding your name differently. Jeez.

Is it a good idea To call the US consulate in manila to find out about the case schedule.or should just wait for the formal letter interview thanks.

NVC will be the one to give you the interview schedule, not the US Embassy.

Your middle name IS a given name.

Mine says:

Surname: Name3

Given Name : NAME1 NAME2

Name 2 is my middle name. There is no specific spot for a middle name on the US visa. I think this is why many of us end up with name1name2 issues in the SAVE database.

On my SSN it says:

NAME 1 NAME 2

NAME3


It's exactly the same on my husbands SSN. (He has two middle names.)

NAME1 NAME2 NAME3

SURNAME
