Hi All,

I entered the US POE (New York) on a CR1 visa on 25 May 2012. Supposedly I was sent a CR1 card or green card out by mail around July 2012 though I did not receive this. As I understand, When my visa was stamped with the blue stamp and dated at the POE this acts as a temporary green card for 1 year prior to my receiving the card itself? My problem is that this temporary stamp has now expired and I have to leave the U.S for a period of 2 weeks in 2 weeks time to visit my father who is sick and receiving a major operation.

I recently contacted USCIS and spoke with an officer who confirmed that my card was sent out in July 2012. He mentioned that I may have to fill out an I-90 form for loss of card and advised that I book an appointment through INFOPASS on the USCIS website to visit with an officer at my local office which I have now done.

My question is, my appointment is on 5th February and I am due to fly back to the UK on 10th February. Is there anything that they will be able to do for me to make it possible for me to fly back without any problems? i.e Would they possibly re-stamp my visa or could they expedite my green card for me?

I am deeply distressed as I really need to get back home for my father. Any help from you guys is massively appreciated.

Thanks!

Right. Your stamped visa is a temp 1 year GC. You'll be able to fly in and out of the USA fine with that (look at the small print on the visa - it confirms the 1 year bit for a validated I-1551).

It sounds like your GC got lost in the mail. :( Hopefully your INFOPASS will sort that out. When they mail the GC they do so with a tracking number visa USPS - so if they are able to find that they should at least be able to find out if it was delivered or returned to sender.

Hi 'Lost at Sea' thank you so much for your reply.

The problem that I have is the 1 year 'temp visa' on the stamp would have expired on 25th May 2013.

I'm just wondering if they'll be able to do something for me at INFOPASS to enable me to fly home i.e stamp an extension or expedite my green card?

Thank you again..

Oh, gah. I'm sorry, I misread your first post. I thought you meant it was expiring in May 2014. My bad. You waited a long time to find out where your card went! :)

The INFOPASS appointment should be able to advise you on what to do (or, rather, if they can do anything to make sure you can travel). Either expedite a replacement card or re-stamp your passport because the error is on their part. You might want to take with you info on your travel plans and why you need to go, in case they need a hard reason to expedite.

You must be coming up on your RoC filing window, too... You're gonna need your GC to do that.

I know, talk about leaving things to the last minute. I guess I had no plans to go back to the UK until my father became sick :(

I believe that you have to RoC 90 days prior to the 2 year anniversary of your arrival into the US? That would mean I would need to do that around the end of February this year seeing as I arrived 25th May 2012?

Yes, I will take as much info as I can. Again, thanks for your kind advice.

Yeah, that's right. There's a RoC guide here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/751guide And it's not 90 days prior exactly, you have to file it sometime in that 90 day window (not before, not after).
