Visa approved smile.png. thanks to all VJers and good luck to all future applicants!

first round with an Indian - she took my passport and sealed medical report and then asked: who is calling you there (spouse), have you completed fingerprints, when did you meet petitioner last time, why did i have a notarized affidavit to support my birth certificate (answer: because my name could not be included on birth certificate due to a government regulation that name cannot be included on the birth certificate if the certificate is requested after 15 years of birth). returned all my civil documents and took ds-260 confirmation copy and later gave the pamphlet about rights in the US and asked me to go through it later.

after that, waited for approx. 15 minutes when name was called out for the next round:

second round with an American - She asked which language would I like to be interviewed, then asked me to read out/take the oath. Then asked: who is calling you there, when did you get married, was it a love or arranged marriage, where did you go for your honeymoon, when did you meet petitioner last time, where does he work, with whom does he live there and then she said 'congrats, your visa is approved' dancin5hr.gif . She then handed the page with instructions to pay $165 and said we should pay it before I land in the US.

very pleasant experience at the consulate. both officers were extremely polite throughout.

called ustraveldocs customer care and they informed that when we go to pick up our visa at the pickup facility, we will be given a yellow sealed packet that should be taken unopened and submitted at the port of entry in the US

thanks to everyone at VJ once again and wish everyone a speedy (re-)union with your loved ones. good luck!

congrats!!! Thanks for sharing your interview experience. My wife has her interview next week (Feb 3rd) and this helps.

Couple of questions to you:

1) Do they also allow the petitioner inside the consulate? I am planning to be there with my wife but not sure if they let the petitioner in.

2) Not sure what your time slot was. We have our appointment at 7:30AM. Do they allow you to line up before that? like 6:30AM or so at the Mumbai consulate?

thanks vkrishn.

I have not seen them allow anybody other than the applicants.

yes, we can wait outside before the actual interview time.

We went to the consulate on the day before interview, and the security asked us to come only 30 minutes before scheduled interview time. My appointment was at 7.30am and we reached there before 7am. There are two long queues outside the consulate - the smaller one is for immigrant applicants. They let us in by about 7.15am. At that point we are asked if we have completed our fingerprints or not. No cell phones allowed inside. As we enter, the first hall is security check of us and our belongings. After we enter the second hall (the main one), two queues are made - one for applicants who have come single (no derivatives/add-ons), another for families (one per family will stand in the queue and the rest of the family can wait outside the queue). Names are called out at random and tokens are given. Hope this helps, good luck!

Re: Mumbai passport return delivery time?

Hello,

How many days it is taking to receive passport back from consulate after the day of interview in India (Mumbai / Delhi)?

I am flying to Mumbai to be with my wife during her interview and at this point I am not sure when to book return flight! I am thinking will give 5 business days and book return on 6th day. If that does not work out, I have to return back alone.

Please let us know.

thanks
