My fiances interview is scheduled for Feb 20th in Kiev... How or where do I request permission to enter the embassy with her? Not attend the interview but cleared through security to get into the embassy?

Also after we are approved I want to schedule flights as soon as possible? Can we pick up the Visa at the embassy? If not is it garunnteed to arrive within 5 days to kharkiv? I would hate to book our flights and then the visa comes late....anyone with experience with this?

I called the Consular section to ask if the USC must be in a list to be able to attend interview, they said no. Person just needs to present US passport to be able to enter. But you still can get in touch with them and ask again.

Visa is picked at the place you choose for pick up....it´s TNT office, you do not pick visa at the embassy or consular department.

They DO NOT recommend to book flights before you get your visa in hand.

Generally the visa was not available for about 5 days after the interview. Unless you want to stay in Kiev for that much time after the interview, go with her to Kharkov. Because of the current situation in the country, you should expect some delays over the normal processing time, but the embassy can give you better information. You can email them but be sure to include the new case number for the embassy as they will not generally respond quickly to questions that don't relate to a specific case. If you plan to stay in Kiev, you can pick it up, but only at the delivery service office. The embassy policy does not allow visas to be picked up at the embassy.

If you are looking to buy tickets early to get a discount, then give yourself a long processing time than the standard 5 days plus delivery service time. You don't need to be at the interview, but she does need to have all of the proper information and a good knowledge of your personal history and background. You should also compare prices for an early purchase with the cost of a change fee to see if the price difference would be worth possibly making a mistake in your plans.

Also, think about your fiancee. She will be leaving her family and friends for a long time considering the green card processing times and she might want to say goodbye to a lot of people. Give her some time to prepare to leave. We all know about the frustration and heartache of being apart, but have a little more patience. She will soon be coming to you and all of life will change for the better.dancin5hr.gif

You don't have to do anything, just show up with your US passport. They'll just let you in.

Also, the consular officer might want to speak with you too since you're there. He called me up and asked me a couple of additional questions after speaking with the fiancee and then told us we're approved (it was easier for him to speak in English, so he just spoke with me then). You can both walk up to the window, but he'll make you go sit down while he speaks with the fiancee (you can just sit in the closest chair and hear everything pretty much).

What are the questions they ask?

Nothing hard at all, some very basic question.

He asked my fiancee how long she knows me, how many times we met, did she meet my parents, how I know Russian. Then called me and asked how long ago I left Ukraine, how often do we talk to each other and what methods do we use to communicate. Then told us we're approved.

Did you bring proof of the relationship from the start or just from the time you applied for the visa? They should have all the other info I assume. It would be easier if they would issue the visa right there..

From the start. I had pretty much print outs of a screenshot of skype chats like a screen for almost every day that we spoke (I had about 6 iPhone screenshots per page and had like 30-40 pages). Also had photos of us from before we were engaged or applied. I don't know if he even looked at any of it, certainly didn't look at it in front of us.
