Hello, I hope this question isnt a repeat or an obvious question unsure.png

I am currently living in Japan and filed my i-130 a few months ago. Im currently patiently waiting to hear back from them with some good news of acceptance, but I thought, why not be proactive and see whats the next step after the i-130. I have a general idea about what forms to fill.

1) I-485,application to register permanent residence or adjust status

2) I-864, Affidavit of support (Based on my financial situation i feel i will need this form as well)

In addition to the above forms, are there any other forms that are necessary? Of course there is the medical form for my spouse, interview, etc, but in terms of documentation I just want to double check.

Again, I hope this form doesn't reask any questions, however if it does please just point me in the right direction. Any information, links, etc would be greatly helpful, I really appreciate it! smile.png

**If anyone knows of some good checklists or something like that in regards to the process after the I-130, it would be a life saver! Thank you so much agian!

You are not adjusting status, so (1) does not apply.

I am living in Tokyo with my wife for the past 3 months as well and have been researching what I need to do to help her out since my I-130 petition just went to the NVC this month.

Your wife will need a civil surgeon medical test as you mentioned, and police report. I would wait till you get closer to the interview before applying for the background checks ( if you live in Tokyo )

http://www.keishicho.metro.tokyo.jp/tetuzuki/tokou/tokou.htm

There is an web-version DS-260 Immigrant Visa Electronic Application on the which your wife will fill out with your assistance during the NVC process. You can have her review example questions today, if you search for the obsolete fill-in-the-form version which is called "DS-230". The DS-260 is the only one you will actually submit.

Since we are both petitioning for Japanese a citizen, bookmark the embassy's site for extra info

You need to read up on the next stage after approval at USCIS. Read the #1 and #2 post in this NVC filers thread and follow it while you wait.
