We have been married for almost five years now and we are living outside the US. My husband has stated that he wants us to move to the US and wants me to start the filing process. My brother in laws are US citizens and just returned back to the states after attending a funeral here. I am thinking that this has something to do with him now wanting to leave. I have nothing against moving back to the states if we had a sound finacial plan and family support, currently we have neither. My family is unable to support us and nor do we have the financial means to live there if he doesn't find a job. My brother in law has offered for us to stay with him but we would still need money to live while he looks for a job. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it a good idea just to move back with a significant amount of money in the bank. We will be moving to florida and I am not sure about the job market there now. Any input on what we should do? Thanks!

You would have a year or so to save up.

Well,

First of all, this topic is probably in the wrong place because it's not really a visa issue so far.

Regarding your questions, to me, it's a matter of personnal judgement. There are so many things to factor for your problem. It all depends on your lifestyle and if you are ready to look for a job in the US. In my opinion if you want it bad enough, you'll find the mean to make it work financialy.

Just wondering does anyone know how long the process is taking now for CR1? I really don't have a clue how long the process is taking and how much time we would have before we leave.

I agree with Boiler. But you should also know that if you need to delay your trip a little, you can choose to take longer to fill out the forms.

At the NVC stage, they tell you that they will cancel your application if they don't hear from you for a year. That allows you to be a little flexible with the timing of your application if needed.

About a year as I said and then you could easily fudge it to 2 years. If you are thinking longer than 2 then I would hold off.
