We've got to get out of that shitehole. Better today than tomorrow. Afghanistan will be a shitehole whether we leave today or tomorrow - or whether we had left 10 years ago. It's a useless exercise that we should not spend another dollar on let alone waste another US service(wo)man's life on. The administration is right to get us out of the war but it is terribly wrong to leave anyone there for any amount of time. Bring them home. All of them. Now.

Finally, something we agree on totally. It's ridiculous we are spending almost $7 billion a month on that place. For what? 3 days after we leave, you won't be able to tell we were ever there, except for all the surplus vehicles and such. 7 X 12 = $84 billion a year. Reckon we could help some people in our own country with that amount?

please work on your quoting. there's no need to quote someone, post that, and then do a reply in a separate post.

I agree but we would never spend that much money on our own soil because that makes too much sense.

I think we should continue limited operations there only. Ie: special forces, intelligence Ops, and of course drones. We need to be able to quickly take out leadership terrorist networks. As far as nation building goes, hell no we should have never been there in the first place under that capacity.

Well, I would assume you don't mean all of our overseas boys. Our guys in South Korea, for example, are doing a great service. The unmatched power of the US worldwide has led to less focus on militarization among our allies. This is a good thing. When people build war machines, they eventually want to use them. The longer we can supplement the world's militaries, the longer there will continue to be peace.

No, I meant specifically the troops in Afghanistan. That place won't be saved or turned into anything civil or worth protecting within our lifetime. It's not gonna happen no matter the lives and treasure we bury there. So let's not waste another soul or another dollar and get the hell out.
