Physical vs. Mailing Address

Hello everyone,

I am in the process of filing my i-751 form and I am a bit confused about this part of the application. To cut a long story short, my husband and I went to a community college in NY and then after we graduated, me decided to attend the same senior college in D.C. (well he graduated a year before I did and I followed him). Our permanent address is still in NY there and that's where we go whenever we have breaks/holidays. However, I we both technically live in D.C. since our school is there so I don't know if I should put a different mailing address, and if I do, is it going to be weird? FYI, I still receive most of my mail (bank statements, bills, etc. there).

Thanks for your help!

Include any explanations for issues that may cause a red flag in your cover letter. You should be fine.

I would still use the old address since all of your mail, including any evidence and/or documentation you might need to use will have the old address on it. And, as you say you still get the majority of your mail at the old address. Just my opinion, but the mailing/physical address you use with the USCIS is the address that the USCIS will expect you to receive mail there from the USCIS. Others may have a different opinion, but this is mine.

Best of luck!

Thank you for your responses!

Hi! I do have the same question now that I am preparing for my ROC. How did yours go? My husband and I live in a different address vs our permanent address initially listed on our petition. When I I arrived here, I never lived in the permanent address but that was where my GC and SSC delivered. So technically, the dates I am in the physical address is the same as the dates in my permanent address.

So did you put the permanent address or did you put the physical address?

Did you include a letter of explanation in your ROC packet?

Thank you!

I would want my important mail being sent to the address where I spend most of my time so it can be accessed quickly. If you were to get an RFE you would want as much time as possible to address it.

Plus I wouldn't want my new gc hanging around in a mailbox too long for someone to steal.
