Hey,

question about the affidavit of support.

my wife is a US resident and currently studying for MBA without an income.

I am working abroad filing for CR1 visa.

my wife does not have much savings, probably several tens of thousands of USD, while I have several hundreds of thousands.

do we have to have a sponsor to sponsor me? or can I self sponsor?

Do they take into account my profession and my earnings potential?

I got a bit lost, and wanted to understand better the process.

They don't take potential income into account. Most places (US embassy London, UK is an exception) do not allow self-sponsorship, and very few allow assets outside the USA anyway, but since you are married, you can transfer your money into her account in the USA and then she can sponsor you on assets.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
