Illinois Wants Patients to Trade Gun Rights for Weed

Illinois public officials are considering a plan that would residents to forfeit their Second Amendment rights to obtain medical marijuana.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

Patients who want to qualify for medical marijuana in Illinois would have to be fingerprinted for a background check and pay $150 a year — and give up their right to own a gun, state officials proposed Tuesday.

The plan outlines how adults who have any of 41 specified medical conditions, such as cancer, AIDS or complex regional pain syndrome, may apply to get a patient registry identification card to purchase medical pot.

The proposed rules are the first in a series of parameters expected to be outlined over the course of the year to govern how medical marijuana can be legally grown, sold and purchased. The Illinois Department of Public Health will take public comment on this set of rules until Feb. 7 and then submit them to a legislative panel for approval by the end of April.

I thought weed was not dangerous. ????Perhaps all users should forfeit their other rights also?Why stop at one?......Or is this just another backdoor attack on the 2nd... plain and simple?

So if I have CRPS, and qualify for medical marijuana, I can only get it after surrendering my gun? I think I would prefer to get my MJ thru alternative methods and keep my gun, thanks. Or just move to another state.

Illinois is different. They have fought, tooth and nail, to get Concealed Handgun permits out of the state. They lost, and are seeking to put a dig into the new system.

This, if passed, will be a dig.

Once that starts the taking any legal drug written by a DR could be grounds for giving up the 2nd. My sister has restless leg and the drug she takes s also used to treat depression and Parkinson's ....No depression just restless leg. ... Give up one of your rights.
