Hi there, I am about to enter the USA on a k1 fiancé visa. After I marry my fiancé I know I have to file for AOS and my EAD. Now, I've seen many people who get their ead and green card pretty much at the same time. Doesn't that mean that the ead was pretty much a waste of money because the green card authorizes you to work anyway? I'm just curious if it's worth spending the $340 on the ead when there's a decent chance I won't even need it

The ead and ap fees are waived when you file it with AOS. It's highly Recommended to file for all 3. The ead and ap take about 3 months. The green card can take up to one year. It's really up to you, but there's nothing to lose since you don't pay extra for it.

EAD and AP fees are waived when filed with the AOS. File for them all at the same time so there aren't any surprises.

Its free when you apply for the aos. between my greencard and ead was 2 months. But it also ment two months income out of work.

Most people apply for the ead and ap because there no costs with it when you apply for the aos.

Hi there WillyTee,

To add my voice to what everyone else has said - I would apply for all 3 just in case. I "failed" my biometrics twice (I work in healthcare, wash my hands 20+ times per day and have no fingerprints left), so my GC got delayed by this process. I did end up getting it about 5-6 months after I applied for AOS, but it was all a delay I wasn't expecting. I was grateful to have my EAD and AP documents in the meantime. You just never know!

2011 - 2013 - K-1, AOS, Lifting COnditions

2013 - 2014 - GC approved

2024 - Instead of renewing, why not go the full monty? (They actually made it really easy to do this)
