Maybe someone will have some advice, but I understand that this is probably too special of a case. Anyways, we have all of our forms just about ready to go, but I started looking more closely at our copy of the birth certificate that we have.

Since we are in the US we acquired the copy of my wife's BC through the Chilean government website, which provides a variety of forms digitally. At first it sounded questionable to me, but looking at the pdf provided made it appear legitimate, and a too quick of an initial comparison to the photos my wife took of her original BC acquired in Chile showed no obvious differences. Also, it's stated in the instructions that the BC provided with the application can be a copy.

However, looking over everything again today, there are two statements on the online copy that are not on the original.

Uso exclusivo para ASIGNACION FAMILIAR ("Use Exclusively for Family Designation")

and

PARA SER PRESENTADO EN INSTITUCIONES PREVISIONALES

Which has a far less obvious translation, but is something of the nature "To be presented in Social Security/Insurance Institutions")

Otherwise, the forms are identical in every way. I am kind of panicking because anyone have an idea if these statements make the BC invalid in this context? Could I maybe provide this copy and also provide prints of the photos that she took of her original BC as well? We will of course acquire an original for the actually interview date, which shouldn't be a problem but right now getting an original from Chile to the US can take nearly a month. If possible, I don't want to delay on this submission any longer. Thanks.

Alright, I guess we're just going to send prints of both the digital version that might have issues and of the pictures of the original, and then two corresponding/slight variations of the translations.

Since we'll at the very least need an original for the interview, we'll have her family get one or probably two and send it to us. It should of course arrive well before our interview. Also, if they don't find our other versions sufficient for the initial application and they send us an RFE, the originals should arrive by the time we would get the RFE and not slow down the process too much.

Of course, we'd still be happy for any other ideas from people with more experience here. Or at least an ok of "That should probably work fine." Thanks.

What visa are you adjusting from? Why not have a copy of the birth certificate mailed express to you? It will take days, not a month to receive. Then provide a translation of that one to go along with it. No worries about mismatched copies or getting an RFE that way.
