The process of getting my SSN has been long. I applied for my SSN a couple weeks after I got married. They told me it would take 2-4 weeks to arrive. I went to the SS office after 4 weeks had passed to ask why I hadn't received the card. They said that the post office sent the card back to them and that I should inform my post office that I indeed live at my address. She then said that my landing doc was about to expire so she couldn't issue a card, but she printed of my number for me. She said come back with you EAD.

OK so last Friday I got my EAD. On Wednesday I went back into the SS office and asked them to mail me out a card. The lady said that she would have to send my file to USCIS to be verified that my card can be issues, and then they would issue the card upon approval. I asked her to print me a copy of my number with the date so I could show a potential employer that I am in the process of getting the card.

Ok so my question is this, Am I legally allowed to work, having my EAD and my SSN, but no physical card?

And will an employer accept my SSN from a printout?

Yes, you are legally allowed to work. The SSN will be required as part of the hiring process, which will come after interviews etc. Hopefully by the time you gain employment you will be ready to show the SSN card, but until then the number alone should suffice for any potential employer. In addition your SSN can be checked through e-Verify, proving the number is legit.

Good luck!

Review an I-9 form, you'll find that yer qualified.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
