Do I need to apply for a I-131 reentry permit if I am planning on working from another country for a year? During this year, I will be returning every 60 days for approximately 1 week. I am currently a 2 year green card holder, and I have had the green card for about 10 months so far. My American wife will stay in the US and we will keep our apartment lease in the US during this time.

Do you think I would be able to leave for a year, come back for a week or two, then reaply for the 10 year green card (since my 2 year green card will expire), and then leave again for another year? I ultimately want to stay in the US, but I think this job might go on for 2 years or so.

You will need to remove conditions on your card. If you got a reentry permit now it would expire when your 2-year GC does. I would apply for a reentry permit at the same time you remove conditions. (or a little afterward).

You can apply to remove conditions from abroad, but you must return to the US to do fingerprinting at your local ASC.

AOS for my husband
