Hello everyone,

We just received an RFE yesterday (checking on the USCIS website) and obviously we are very nervous. We really struggle to see what is missing and we even prepared our petition with a lawyer (but this is not a guarantee anyway).

Do you know if the USCIS can give us the content of the RFE over the phone before we receive the hard copy by mail?

It is nerve-wracking to wait (I didn't sleep really well last night!). I hope it is not going to delay the process too much (pretty swift so far). We plan to get married in October.

Thanks for your answer! This is a great and very supportive forum.

Don worry a rfe is better that an intent to deny letter.

For rfe you have more time to submit the evidence.

For an intent to deny you have only one month.

My fiance and I got an intent to deny, and he got it at the mail lacking 15 days to answer.

He answered and the evidence arrived 2 days before of the month finish, we were ok and approved. :)

No, they won't tell you over the phone. You wait for the letter.

Thank you very much for your support. We will try to call them but in any case we should know by next week in the mail. Hopefully it is something we can easily fix. Do you know if they keep on processing your case as soon as they receive our reply?

Thank you!

Hi Anne,

Oh you're at the beginning of your journey (well, relatively so). I just got my approval yesterday (9 months after filing), so I've been through where you're at.

First off, my USC fiance and I also worked with an immigration lawyer. RFEs can still happen (as you know) despite working with a lawyer; we happen to be working with what turns out to be a relatively incompetent lawyer, but it IS entirely possible that a document has gone missing, which is why they are issuing an RFE. I know what it's like -- hard not to be worried and disappointed -- but fear not.

For my fiance and I, our RFE was for a letter of intent to marry. Technically, you and your fiance are supposed to each write your own and sign it. Your RFE could well be for something different, though.

Received RFE notice August 1.

Replied to RFE August 7.

NOA2 August 28.

There was no great delay with the RFE, and we were still approved faster than what was anticipated.

If there is once piece of advice I can give you now to consider, it is to accept the bumps in the road and realize that at the end of the day, as long as you end up married to your fiance, that is what matters. I hope your journey goes as smooth as can be.

Good luck!

Depends on the individual adjucator. Some work on them again when they receive the updated information, some work on them one time per month, some work on them in a willy nilly fashion....there is no standard.

All you can do is wait for the RFE letter in the mail. In the meantime, you can look over your entire packet you sent them, to see if you notice anything missing. Double check the K-1 guides here and the example forms, and compare what you submitted to see if you included everything and had all your forms filled out properly. This may help to give you a better idea of what your RFE may be.
