F2A green card for spouse of permanent resident_Advance Parole?

Hello everybody!

My husband, who is a permanent resident, filed a petition for me in October 2013 and we received a letter in November with a receipt number (some people say this is also the case number) begining with WAC, which stands for California Service Center, right? My PD is Oct. 22, 2013.

My concern is about the next step. I have read that I must receive another letter with the appointment for biometrics, right? How long does this notification take, anyone knows? I have been checking several websites, and all of them talk about 5 months. However, I don't understand if this 5 months refer to the appointment letter or to the whole process... I'm so confused!! In addition to this, he lives in NY and I am finishing grad school in TX. Does it mean that, since he's the greencard holder I will have my biometrics appointment in NY?

Also, I could not go back to my country during Christmas because I started the process here (I'm a grad student doing the adjustment of status, from F1 to permanent resident through my husband). A friend told me that I could apply for the Advance Parole in order to be able to visit my family over the Summer, and that's my question. Should I wait until I get the biometrics appointment? Or should I go ahead and file the AP in March as it may take some months to get a reply from USCIS?

Any help here? Your comments would be very much appreciated!

For starters, you can't submit Adjustment of Status paperwork until your PD is current (follow the visa bulletin at state.gov) - it will get rejected and your money not refunded. You MUST remain in a valid status (F1) until your PD is current. Failure to remain in status and being in an overstay period is NOT forgiven for LPR spouse.
