I did not apply for EAD. Now I realize it was a mistake. I just thought that since I'm pregnant and won't be working for a while, it was a waste of time. Only after submitting my AOS, I realized that I need SSN for example to get a driver's license and EAD would give me SSN. Ugh. Some people on here suggested that I send the EAD form now and this is what I think I'm going to do.

No interview scheduled yet. I think my repeated biometrics delayed it. My second biometrics appointment was on January 14, so hopefully in a couple of weeks I will get something in the mail.

This thread took such a turn that I forgot that you mentioned that...lol. Whether you have to pay for it or not, I think applying for the EAD is a good move for the reasons you stated. We did it for those same reasons. It took 66 days from filing for AOS.

Haha, I know! All I wanted to know is mine and the baby's health coverage having March 30 as due date, which is so close to the enrolment deadline :) At least I learned that I should apply for EAD regardless of no plans for employment :)

As as far as Medical Insurance is concerned you just go through the same procedures as anybody else in California would. The only thing different is that whilst your Husband and Child may be eligible for Medicaid and its variants, you are not.

I would call them and ask if you give both in April would this be a qualifying event for you or your husband. No particular reason why he would wish to delay. Sounds like you would prefer to stay with Emergency Medicaid whilst you can.

And on the other, just to keep this thread confusing, I think my concern would be if she could be said to have obtained an immigration benefit by misrepresenting herself as Canadian.

Any non Canadian would have proffered their passport.

Hahaha

Agreed. That is a concern and the IO may assume misrepresentation. We are at the mercy of the IO and will cross that bridge when we get there.

As I've mentioned, I am currently covered under Medi-Cal Pregnancy Only which includes all my prenatal visits, ultrasounds, etc, delivery and 6 weeks post delivery (earlier I said 60 days, my bad), so I am not worried about this part.

What I'm worried is myself after my Medi-Cal coverage expires 6 weeks after giving birth to my baby. IF the baby (which is due March 30) comes after March 31 deadline, I'm screwed until October enrolment windows opens? If the baby comes BEFORE March 31, I might be eligible for Obamacare (though, I haven't' been a resident for over 5 years but from what I hear, it varies state to state - need to figure it out still) or will need to get the private insurance. BTW $300 per month sounds insane to me (in Europe, where I was born and raised it's free and in Canada, where I lived for 10 years, it's free as well).

My other concern is the baby. 1) if the baby qualifies for full MediCal - will it impact MY green card application 2) if the baby gets a plan under Obamacare but is born AFTER March 31, will the baby be without coverage until we can enrol the baby in October?

Nothing is free. You just paid in another way, higher taxes. My wife and I just did our Federal taxes and our effective tax rate is 5%...that's a l,ot lower than taxes in Europe and Canada. There really is no such thing as free... Some one pays for it, I assure you.

Good luck. I\Like I said if I was you I would buy the insurance before the baby is born to play it safe to be sure you and the baby have continuous coverage. But that's just me.

What is your current status?

Dont you get cover through your employer?. People on work visas are eligible for OCare.

Many thanks, again, but no, my company does not offer this benefit, but I have work permit, I have work, SSN #. do you know if is possible to apply? Do you know if I apply I will have some problems with my I140 pending? Because i will use a government benefit ...

Really weird< i have never heard of someone on a L not have insurance.

Anyway yes you can apply, however you will probably have to wait until the next enrollment window. You may or may not qualify for a tax credit, you are currently subject to a tax charge for not having cov er. A tax credit is not an issue.

I applied to the L1 but initially I had it denied, but the company I work applied again through a benefit that I do not remember for I140 and has received oo Work permit and SSN # and already presented documents in the company and I am already working. but I am awaiting the i140 response.

I'm afraid to use this benefit because it can mess up something in my process. And when I apply for the plan they offered me discounts based on my income 36K year. Do you know if I will have some problems with this in the future?

Oh my oh my. Health care is NOT free in Canada or anywhere in Europe. There's no such a thing as a free lunch. Very high income tax rates pay for your health insurance. You pay for it, you just don't have to make a check out to Blue Shield. The personal income taxes in Europe range from 30-65% and they get "FREE HEALTHCARE." Not free. You just pay into the system differently.

Absolutely right! We are taxed to death in Canada!
