B1/B2 Business/Tourist Visa For Thai Lady

I thought I'd put this up because I've seen a lot of threads about not telling the embassy that you are visiting a BF. I think this is wrong advice. Who is going to believe that a Thai woman is traveling to the US alone for a holiday? Especially for two months? No one I think. Just be honest, think about your situation and intentions and find a way to write them up in a believable way.

The lady I am dating and I never intend to marry. She's 30 single, never married, no land, no kids, and up until now she has only travelled to Korea (with friends) and Vietnam (with me). I wrote a letter saying that we don't intend to marry (and we don't), and that I am always traveling to Thailand for work (4-5x per year). I also sent copies of my Thai visa stamps to prove it. I wrote that we would actually see each other more often if she remains in Thailand and visits me on her school breaks. (She's a teacher with a master's degree.) A lawyer told me that this would be viewed positively and he was correct.

They gave her a 10 year multiple B1/B2 combination visa. She likes her job there and I like mine so this is perfect for us.

Hmm... well the letter was part of being honest. I knew she had to qualify on her own merit. Like you, I believe if she was coming on a tour for a couple weeks and staying at hotels, that it would have been an easy case.

But she was coming alone for nearly two months and staying with me. I didn't want that to become a negative, so I wanted to be sure they understood the situation. And I wanted them to be aware that I would be headed back to Thailand for nearly four months at just about the same time she will be leaving to go back to work. Could she have explained this all herself? I suppose so, but I felt like it would be more believable if it came from me and I showed that I have had this same travel schedule for years via my passport stamps.

In real life, letters from interested third parties are not given any weight whatsoever, since any statement contained therein is totally unenforceable....likely she managed to convince the CO of her bona fides...

I would agree that a statement saying, "He/she doesn't need money because I will pay his/her expenses." would not be helpful, but I didn't make a statement promising to do anything. I simply provided a clear explanation of a particular issue.

I think it is not possible to know whether such a letter would help or not.
