Funny that this subject came up... I'm jumping the same hoops. The IRS wants a real passport or a certified copy from the agency that issued the passport. Wonderful!!! The issuing agency in Brazil is the Federal Police who is not allowed by law to authenticate or certify any type of document. That leaves the Brazilian consulate as the only other issuing agency... need to travel to a third country do get an authenticated copy and maybe the IRS will accept it!

Not maybe, they will accept a US embassy certified/authenticated copy. Check out the link to the current IRS form W-7 instructions I posted above. When I checked with the US embassy in Kiev, they knew exactly what I needed, and why. It was $50, though. Still a much better deal, than sending an original passport, if you ask me.

04/17/2014 NVC says "one piece of mail" regarding case received, can't specify which one AOS or IV

04/21/2014 "Two pieces of mail received", so AOS and IV packages both logged in.

05/06/2014 Case Complete.

05/13/2014 Interview scheduled

06/12/2014 Interview at Kiev Embassy

06/12/2014 Visa Approved!

Removal of conditions:

05/04/2016 I-751 Received at California Service Center

05/06/2016 NOA-1
