Has anyone had any experience obtaining a foreign police check certificate?

The HK police want...

c) A photocopy of a letter from the relevant Consulate / Immigration Authority / Government Authority, which contains his or her name and clearly indicates that the production of the Certificate is required.

d) A photocopy of the documents proving his or her relationship with the Principal Applicant for the application if the said letter does not contain his or her own name.

I am just wondering if anyone has ever had to get a "letter" or what they have had to use in the past? or if you can request a letter from the embassy/visa unit?

As i am filing DCF i understand i will not get a "checklist" showing i need a police check letter? what can i use?

Any help will be much appreciated!

London does all their checklists as web links. I suppose you got those requirements from the Dept of State reciprocity tables http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/HK.html

If not, down the page explains it also.

I think you probably need to contact the embassy via the online contact form and ask them to send you an original letter that states your name, the visa you have applied for, and that a police certificate is required for all countries you have lived in for more than 12 months over the age of 16 years because that is what you need for Hong Kong. Tell them normally correspondence from NVC would serve that purpose, but you are processing at the embassy, not NVC.

See what they reply. Then you can reply back of needed until you work something out.

Did you see the link on the embassy website of police stations authorized to take your fingerprints for this purpose?

Visa Contact form http://london.usembassy.gov/niv/visa_contact_form.html

The phone numbers on the website won't get you to the immigrant visa people. You'll get all kinds of crazy answers from the non-immigrant side. Best to use the online form.

Second paragraph under Police Certificates has the link. http://london.usembassy.gov/document_checklist.html#police_certificate

I don't know anything about cancelling and starting over other than what lost_at_sea has mentioned in posts.

Does anyone know if London are ok with the HK police sending the certificate direct? They only do this so I am hoping there is no issue!
