What race on this earth is more loathed than African American? I'm not using the race card, but let's be honest here. Being in over 17 different countries, I've had to deal with that stigma. It's the ultimate disclaimer, don't be a black guy. If you're black, don't bother.

Teachers in high minority schools are paid 2K less. Don't know where all that money they're spending on funding is going, but it's not going into the teacher's salary.

I used to go to friends and family's houses that weren't as well off as we were. As a child, I never understood why their houses used to smell. You know, the musty, no deodorant smell that gets into your clothes. I remember you had to check everywhere you would sit or play because of the roaches scrambling around when the lights came one. Rats? Take a ride over to ESL, the entire city is one big mess. No one wants to live that way.

I'm still trying to find the part in the constitution where is says citizens have the right to government handouts. I'll never find it, because it's NOT there. The country is 17+ trillion dollars in debt, yet it still feels the need to pay people to sit on their a$$ and generate future govt. leeches.

As I have said many times in the past, I believe that it's a complex problem with no magic solution.

The problem is that no one wants to recognise that they are the beneficiaries of a system that is inherently unfair. The reason that so many minority communities are deeply impoverished cannot be disassociated from the racist policies of America's past. That doesn't mean that individuals from those communities can use slavery, segregation or whilst have you as an excuse for criminal behaviour but there has to be some recognition that the state of things, going back many generations has its roots in a past that white Americans were a part of and have clearly benefitted from.

That's the reason that these sort of welfare schemes exist. Are they abused? Absolutely. Could the money be better spent? Absolutely. That being said, it doesn't justify cutting off welfare and I find it incredibly tedious when people dig up extreme examples as a means of tarnishing a whole population as being leeches or cockroaches, as the precious poster has done. Dehumanising people and sensationalising the issue - haven't got time for that I'm afraid.

I certainly agree that individuals and communities can get themselves out of poverty and of course hard work is the key to doing that. I'm all for regulation of welfare payments, I am not for suspending them.

If we lived in an ideal world, the government would invest in poor communities and make real efforts to normalise standards of living. The reality is that successive governments have no interest in the poor and so we have the present situation. Nothing is gained by cutting welfare except ensuring that the poorest get poorer and nothing changes for anyone else.

Let me tell you something. A very small percentage of folks want to be on Govt assistance. I've never met someone saying I love government assistance! I'm sitting here balling! Please. The folks I met collecting unemployment, were just reeling from the recession back in 2008. All they said was, I'm putting in applications trying to get hired anywhere I can.
