Hello everyone, Heres the scenario. What if an LPR will travel outside the US for a year, what will happen to the petition being filed by the LPR to the son under f2b? what will happen to the petition if ever it will be eligible for visa issuance? does the lpr need to be in US? Thanks in advance

Filed: F-2A Visa Country: Philippines

The LPR must have a re-entry permit before he/she leaves the US. If he/she stays out of the US for a year or more without re-entry permit, he/she will lose the GC due to abandonment of residency which will also terminate the F2B petition that he/she filed.

And at the time of issuance the parent needs to be in the US for the visa to be issued the visa is to reunite families if the parent is not here what is the child needing to come reunite with ?

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I would worry more about travel outside the US and maintaining your LPR status and less on the petition. You loose your LPR status there is no LPR in the US to complete the petition. By definition a lawful permanent resident is a resident of the US and not using the GC as a glorified tourist visa.
