That's really the gist of it. We were having a heated but respectful discussion about Affirmative Action about a year ago and Madame Cleo came in, threw a few bombs, and got the thread closed. The right response from the mods would've been to thread ban the offending member and let it stay open. Nowadays they just close the whole thread.

Yes you were. It was mostly you and I going back and forth about AA, but no one was insulting anyone until the aforementioned member decided to join in. Then poof. Thread closed with the obligatory "do not restart" warning that GandD was referring to.

I'd question why this thread exists since it relies on a false premise which noone is actually discussing.
