So after much anticipation, our interview was finally held on Jan 15th in Haiti. I attended. After a long wait (see consulate review I submitted) the interview lasted a short period of time and I was never asked a question. We were told that the Consulate needed to verify with the court that his divorce was valid. We submitted and brought a raised seal official divorce paperwork, the newspaper where the announcement was printed (customary in Haiti) and other supporting documents. We were told that it wouldn't be necessary for me to return after they confirmed the divorce and my fiance returned to the Consulate for the final decision. The paper that we were given, 221 (g) (printed in French) only stated that there was additional "administrative review" that was needed before a decision was made. There were many other options to check on this form including things like the need for additional support information, need additional proof of relationship, etc. None of which were checked. Only the administrative review and that a decision would be made in 2-3 weeks. Hmmmmmmmm.... He nor I are worried as the divorce is valid, actually saw it written in the book. Just curious on if anyone else has experienced this?!? We left hungry, thirsty and quite a bit confused. Our case status on CEAC website also shows and updated date of Jan 15 and READY, not ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING. Uber confused.

Thx for any thoughts/input. sad.png

He has a copy of the judgement, the extract hasn't been processed yet as they only forward divorces over for extract processing once per year (in January) and his was final in June of 2013 (should have been way before this but that's a whole other issue with the crazy Haiti court system and their "handwritten" ways!!) Ugh! Anyway, the consulate confirmed this and just said they need to contact the court to verify the judgement is in fact legit. Hopefully sooner than later....

Divorced in Haiti? or the States? (I'm a little brain dead lately so just wanted to clarify for myself - haha!) If in Haiti and you do not have the divorce extract yet they may do the same as they did for us and have to further investigate it. Not sure what more can be done since there is such a long delay between when the divorce is granted and when it is shipped to the Archive (if you were divorced in Haiti ;-) )

If divorced in the US, no worries at all. I was and they never even questioned it as it is quick and easy to verify.

What a crazy process but SOOOO EXCITED as we are one day closer to ending this distance! Woo Hoo!!

Just read that from today's Haiti Embassy Review. Thought it relevant to this subject:

then after they confirmed the paper he got from his lawyer from the Archives National d 'haiti director Mr. Jean wilfrid Bertrand stated that the divorce is in the book but the divorce extract paper is not yet available because his divorce was final in 2013 and it takes a year for them to process all weddings and divorces that took place the previous year. So word of advice , if any of you guys won't get your divorce or wedding extract before your interview so try to get that " Attestation " paper ,it only cost $140 (haitian money).
