Take what the airlines will allow. You can ship everything else but I suggest you find out how much this would cost because its probably cheaper to buy it here.

undergarments that fit.

5 sets of outside clothes that fit.

3 pairs of shoes.

favorite cooking spices.

all else can be bought in USA.

does your petitioner have a budget for you, for buying clothes, toothpaste, new linens, a heavy coat?

drats i forgot -

cosmetics and facial cleaning stuffs !

The stuff you use, the stuff you like, most likely isn't sold in the USA, so bring a 2 month supply.

During those 2 months, experiment with cosmetics and facial cleaning stuff in the USA, find stuff that you like, that does not give you a skin reaction.

This is sorta pertinent topic to me at the moment, as my wife and I had this convo this weekend.

very good point! I currently have a very spotty dry face because im now changing skin products and my face is not quite used to it yet.

Also buy skin products that suit the climate. its incredibly dry in California at the moment (to the point where if I get up at night the static makes loads of sparks fly off my clothes) so I wish id brought more moisturizer with me

I am currently packing to leave too, and I am getting bored of looking at my suitcases, haha. I'm a bit of a clothes horse, so I am bringing as much as I can. Also my mum has reacted in a "you won't be here soon so I'm buying you lots of useful stuff to take with you" way. I have a new electric toothbrush, thermal socks and underwear (polar vortex, whooo) but to name a couple of her gifts.

Like packing to holiday, you can start too early I think. I still have three weeks left in the UK so anything I do now will more than likely be re-done later.

Ugh, sorry. Just feeling a bit luggage delirious at the moment!

Don't bother with that! I found it somehow symbolic of starting a new life to pack only my prized (and airline approved) possessions into a 75 pound hockey bag, along with my laptop bag/purse/compound bow case. That's it, that's all. Shipped special Christmas ornaments ahead of me. No fuss, no muss - donated everything else to charity. Worked way better and have noticed that my stuff has multiplied since moving...
