Hello all. My name is Jen and I am an American (newly British) citizen, married to a Greek (also newly British) and am living in Woking, England. I have two children, boys, ages 4 and 2 who are now tri-nationals. I've been married for seven years and have been living in the UK since we got married. My husband and I have decided that now that we have received our UK citizenship that it's time to make our move to the US to be closer to my family. I have some fellow expat friends send me over to this forum to hopefully get some help with this whole process, so here I am. Nice to meet all of you.

Hi and welcome to VJ. Here is a great guide to help you with Direct Consular Filing (DCF) in London to get your husband's visa. It's much quicker than filing through the US. You are eligible since you live in the UK. http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/DCF_London

Why do people never remember the children.

Although the two kids have rights to three nationalities, (That is going to be confusing for them later in life. lol), the US does not see Know about them as citizens until you have reported their births abroad to the US embassy. Its CRBA, Consular Report of birth abroad. You can get the kids their US passports at the same time

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Erm, not sure why you automatically think I haven't thought about my kids, but they hold three passports. When they were born, their births were reported. They have social security cards and all for the US. So, yes, they are tri-nationals.

And I thought the comment was pointed at me for not mentioning the kids. .????

I thought you likely knew the kids would use American passports is why I didn't mention them. I could tell this wasn't your first rodeo.

Haha, nope, definitely not. We've had the joys of dealing with the American, Greek and UK governments for years now. My husband was born in Greece but grew up in Lebanon, so he's always had to deal with the craziness that is the Greek embassy, who are forever inconsistent. So, he's always overly prepared for anything any of the governments need. We made sure to get everything sorted ASAP when our kids were born and continue to very much stay on top of things. We always joke with each other on how much easier life would have been "marrying our own kind". Ah well, life wouldn't be as exciting though, eh?

Please forgive, if my post came across a bit blunt/rude.

I am sure you have considered your kids and look after their needs as any good parent would.

I just have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about CRBA.

A lot of people automatically assume just because one parent is a US citizen, their child/children are. This is generally the case but there are some loops to jump through, CRBA being the main one, before passports can be issued.

No worries. I assume then a lot of people have had issues with that then?
