Make that 47.01%... I just wrote a letter to the IRS this year, telling them I am joining the 47%, I don't want their service anymore.

They had those self check-out lanes at the Albertson's near me. They ended up yanking them all out. They had to have staff constantly overriding them because of the so called "theft-prevention" features on them. It tried to measure the weight of your bags after you scan an item and put it in the bag. If the bag was light by it's calculations, then it stopped the check-out process until an employee came over and over-rode the system. This would happen at least once every time I went there. Personally I'm glad the things are gone because they didn't work, not because it gave a human a job.

There will always be jobs that require little or no skill, although I think they are going to become more rare thanks to automation. One of two things will happen if they raise the minimum wage. Maybe both.

1. Prices will go up. They'll have to pass on the higher costs to the customer.

2. Employers will try to do more with less workers. So while on the surface it might seem great to the guy making a better hourly wage, it probably wont seem so great to the former employee standing out in front of McDonald's with a cup, asking if you can spare some change

That's why I don't even bother scanning some of my items. I scan a few to make it look good, leave the rest in the cart, and then bag everything and then leave. Works every time.

All joking aside, there was a cop in a local town that was doing exactly that, while in uniform. Observed doing this on multiple occasions and security cameras. A disgrace to his uniform. The guy made over 100K a year with overtime and blew his whole career over a couple hundred bucks. Idiot. And he probably still has a gun.

I did get an angry letter from them once saying I owe them $0.00, and if I didn't pay they were going to take legal action.

I woulda wrote back and told them that you were only gonna pay the interest every year, and not pay a DIME towards the interest. Then they coulda balanced the books.

But now that you've confessed, we all know why our national debt is where it is. YOU failed to do your part (by paying what you owed) to bring it down. For shame...

when i was a Plant Manager I constantly sought automation, with a quick ROE, that would eliminate labor.

The higher the labor cost, the quicker the ROE.

NONE should pay income tax.

The FAIR TAX would fix a lot of problems and eliminate income tax altogether. Our tax system is totally broken for the purpose it was intended for...providing revenue for the government to function. It is only possible for it to be so broken because it is based on INCOME. It is only possible for it to be so misused and transfer so much power to politicians because it is based on income.

Imagine there are NO exemptions or deductions...how could the IRS give favorable status to certain political groups (liberal OR conservative) if there is no favorable status to give? How could politiicans obligate US to pay for something by saying they will "make the rich pay" and then write into the law escape clauses for the rich to shelter their INCOME?

The FAIR TAX would make sure EVERYONE pays tax...in the same percentage for everyone. Then when these politicians say they want something, we ALL will pay for it. That may change their tune.

It is unsustainable for half the people to pay for everything and spend the way we do.

It wasn't my fault and I didn't even know Big Mac's could cause heart attacks. There are no warning labels or pictures of people having heart attacks on the Big Mac box. When is Obama ganna do something? He has a pen and stuff.
