It is the American women who tend to be more overweight anyway. And the reason the countries are catching up? They're becoming more westernised.

Wotcha trying to prove MRC?

Nothing, just trying to back up my statements with facts. The US gets the rap for being fat all the time, but I'm just merely pointing out that other countries need to check themselves too. The fat-o-meter is tipping the scales in every direction.

"In Greece, for example, 38 percent of women are obese, compared with 34 percent in the United States, the group said."

Yes, but that was a 2005 study as well.

http://www.who.int/dietphysicalactivity/pu...cts/obesity/en/ - disturbing info. 1 billion adults worldwide are obese!!!! An estimated 22 million children under five are estimated to be overweight worldwide. Sick.

Easy now...why are you getting so defensive? Who said I don't shop? You think groceries magically appear in my cabinets? Nice ego.

Wow, talk about interpreting what I said totally wrong. Where did I say you don't shop?:no:

When you said this:

"I assure you I eat healthily. But you will find HFCS in MOST foods on the store shelf. Just do me a favour and be quiet until you have been shopping. Check out the labels."

Oh, I know...the numbers are probably much worse since that study was released. I like being smaller...it's usually the small and medium (which used to be the large size) clothes that are found on the discount racks because people can't fit into them. SCORE.

 I think they should be banned from all food products as well as partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. They are both molecularly altered synthetically and our bodies don't know what to do with these substances.

People first need to learn how to read a label and recognize that a recommended daily allowance is just that. It's a recommendation...not an allowance to eat up to that amount.

In order to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you take in during a day. It's unfortunate but most people (adults and children) don't know how to eat properly.

I take in under 2000 calories a day...some people that exercise a lot (like my daughter) can take in much more than that and maintain a slim figure. But if you don't exercise, you'd have to alter your diet to adjust to your lifestyle. This is the part that most don't understand. All the rest, like reading the labels for things like HFCS should be taught...but more importantly, I think we need to teach younger kids how to eat properly because that's what seems to be fundamentally wrong here. We face rising health care costs due to poor diet and exercise. All of it is a contributor...calories, fat, sat fat, sodium, added sugars like HFCS, etc.

No, but they end up costing you more than you know in terms of health costs over a lifetime. Diabetes for one is no laughing matter. My mother developed type 2 about 8 years ago. She nearly lost some of her toes about a year ago because a simple cut on her foot wasn't healing. She has no feeling in her feet. She also may end up losing her sight. Did HFCS have an effect? Possibly - she drank a lot of soda.
