Passport Name/CRBA/any other questions I can think of...

Hello,

I have looked several different places to include calling the Veterans Immigration Hotline(Which is a complete waste of time.) trying to find answers to these questions. I have been told sometimes 6 different ways on what to do to migrate her and our child here. My wife and child are located in the Phillipines.

Does my wife have to change her Maiden name on her passport to obtain a CR-1?

Should I persue a CRBA(Certificate Report of Birth Abroad) or file an I-130 for our baby? I am listed as the father on the Birth Certificate.

If I am not present for the CRBA appointment/interview what do I do?

I lost my passport.(I have obtained a new one.) But how detrimental will that be for proof that we were married and have a relationship? I have wedding pics and I should be able to get some old reciepts from hotels etc. for proof.

Are Western Union reciepts good enough for financial co-mingling?

Thanks for your help.

Definitely CRBA for your child. We knew absolutely nothing about that and was planning to file 1-130 for him as well as myself, until fellow VJers pointed me in this direction (complete lifesavers). It's so much easier and cheaper.

My husband is the USC and he couldn't be there either because he's currently deployed. He had to send me form DS 5507 and the consent form DS3053 (can be found on the consulate website) which he had to sign before a notary public, also a notarized copy of his passport and notarized copies of evidence of physical prescence in the United States. That's pretty much what you will need to send her then I'm sure your spouse can take care of the rest. All the forms she needs to fill out and take in can be found on the consulate website.

Best of luck
