While it is true film makers (anyone with a camera) can make any film they want, to get distribution and to be played in a theater is not so unrestricted.

There are self imposed Standards, which prevented politics from getting involved in regulating them.

That is true. What's the deal with fcc regulation on cable though. Aren't they technically allowed to say or show whatever they want? Like, why is HBO allowed to show nudity but not comedy central? And why can Comedy Central allow all cuss words late at night. Is that a choice or regulation thing? I thought only the publicly broadcasted channels were regulated.

Cable is different than say satellite in that cable comes to your home via a public utilities path... which kinda opens the door for control.

What that is, I am not sure.

Getting back to the topic at hand, Danno, why does any of this matter? So a Hollywood producer wants to 'destroy' the NRA by making a movie. How is that even possible? The NRA is pretty robust, if it feels threatened by a movie, maybe they should just rethink their member strategy?

What hypocrisy? I have no wish to stop anything legal from being broadcast or published, no one is being silenced. What I personally choose to watch is my choice and I can have an opinion on it the same as anyone else but there is no hypocrisy, nothing to worry about, no scandal at all and yet you still remain shocked. Very odd.
