Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

weeeeeeelllllll we're not going to court either way. I have already taken enough time off work to play taxi driver...I'm not adding lawyer to my list of new professions.

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

Looks like ICE picked him up before he had the NOA acceptance. Also appears they may have sent the papers to the wrong address, resulting in the delay in getting the petition accepted. Now the question is, did he go before a judge and show his NOA, or did he just sign a confession that he overstayed and voluntarily self deport? My guess is the later. There's been many cases where ICE has arm twisted people into signing self deportation agreements, when they could have used legal methods to stay.

It does seem like the NOA came right after the ICE arrest. He is probably kicking himself for not hiring a good immigration attorney to fight that case for him.

it's cold as a witch's #######

In my experience, witches have warm ones, unless dancing naked in the snow.

soz dunno the ticket and the website both say he does not need to do anything other than pay the fine

When you pay the fine, you are pleading guilty to the offense.

Driving test tomorrow and if he doesn't get it, I might scream.

Luckily, you didn't have to do a learner's permit like we had to do in CT. That was pretty pointless.

Novembro - think about having him take it to court if he hasn't paid the fine yet. It is very likely it will get plead down, like my very very big speeding ticket, without even doing anything the DA offered a driving with impaired vehicle and an erasing of the record if no re-offense in 2 years.

Ahh yeah word. Never meant to say we weren't guilty. I thought a summons was an actual demand for your appearance in court. He didn't kill anyone goofy.gif

And Dane had to do the actual lp? Like wait six months between written and practical? da fuq?!

Doesn't that cost money? I don't even know when we'd have the time.

Pathetic, I know.

CT had just implemented adult learner's permits and I can't remember if it was 60 or 90 days, but it was a pain. Like the UK driving test, the Danish one is certainly harder than the US one anyway.

It cost me less than the fine for the speeding. I think it was like $120 between the impaired vehicle ticket and having to retake something like a "5 hour" driving class where they show you videos and teach you the laws, again.

OOF. You're a saint.

I'll look into I suppose. His fine is only $178 and I kind of just want to be done with it. Trying month financially :o

I'm not sure he's looking for citizenship. In the best of cases, this is a temporary do.

It wouldn't do any harm to go for it at the 3 year mark. This way you can live in either country without any issue.

Only reason we might not do it is if Denmark doesn't change their dual citizenship laws.

It's not an issue for me, I suggested it. It's him. The last time we spoke about it, he seemed very adamantly against the idea.

Men are silly.

What's the Denmark rule?

By the sounds of it, you can't be a dual Danish and American citizen. I'm sure Nola can enlighten us.

And thank you for buying the card, heh.

Edit: Also, good news. I'm getting a roughly 250 quid ($456) refund from the unused part of my plane ticket. Despite it being non-refundable and all that.

Yeah, the Dane was all like...I'll just get USC since I'm living here. Ummm, and forfeit your Danish citizenship and have your wife have more rights in your birth country than you do?

PM Helle's party has put a change to the dual citizenship rules up for the parliament in the coming months, but who knows if they will get to it. As it stands now, if you pick up citizenship of another country as an adult, you automatically lose Danish. If it happens through birth, you have to spend a certain number of years in Denmark before you are like 22 or thereabouts and pass a fluency exam in order to keep both.
