Girrrrl, you're preaching to the choir. If I had a penny for every time I had to defend my position on illegal immigrants ("but you're married to an immigrant!") I'd be rich. wink.png

I know. It seems so many people do not know the difference between illegal and legal immigration. Being rich sounds good though. yes.gif

And speaking of international nonsense, do any of you/your foreign spouses have to vote in your/their countries of origin? Voting is obligatory in Ecuador, and I've been told when the elections roll around again hubby will have to vote, but I really have no clue where we'd do that. I guess maybe the embassy in DC? But that seems improbable, if all Ecuadorian immigrants are expected to travel from all over the country to vote at that one place. sleep.png Who knows.

I just consulted Mrs. T-B. She says that it depends on what D-Hueso wants to do. If he wants to deposit money in Ecu, or open an account, or (probably) request an official document, he'll need to show a current voting certificado. If he doesn't have one, he'll have to pay a penalty, which at one point was $30 or $40 ($Many or $Many). Mrs. T-B. says that it might be more now, knowing Pres. Correa. However, D-Hueso can call any Ecu consulado in the U.S. -- he can probably vote there if he wants or needs to. It almost certainly doesn't need to be at the D.C. embassy. At minimum, they'll tell him what the procedure is to vote, and what the repercussions are if he doesn't vote. Call and report here, si ma'am.

Mrs. T-B. also says that it's apparently quite easy to renew one's expired Ecu pasaporte -- it can be done in one day for something like $130 ($Many).

I just got tickets for Mrs. T-B. & Mini-B., for March (I can't go, sigh man). It was nearly impossible to find flights on award travel, sigh man, and the tickets were still beastly expensive with the various add-ons, like the Ecu airport tax. If we have to pay out-of-pocket in the future, I'll look at Avianca or AeroMexico, si or si man -- the U.S. airlines have priced themselves (or us) out of the market, $Many man. I think that AeroGal had a flight between Nueva York & Cuenca, but I don't know if that's still available.

PA cops are really awful for that. I wouldn't doubt it. I'm surprised neither of us have gotten a ticket yet.

My buddy's dream is to get a car that's completely invisible to bored constables, no see man.

I figure TB will be by to update her on the details. His wife must have had to do it in the past if its required. Wonder what they do if an out of country person does not vote?

If you don't vote, they exile you to the Estados Unidos, si man. laughing.gif

Weird - I do some outreach at UH-D. The Chinese Students Association is G O N E. Gotta learn why.

Deported? Eaten, if someone wanted Chinese food?

There's a formula the Polish IRS use, here it is....

X = 0.5Y x 2

X= What you owe

Y= What you owe

LPoP and unread, but there's a formula that the Polish IRS uses, see man:

Line 1a. How much money did you make last year?

Line 1b. Send it in, $i man!

she managed to override it and separate them for the purposes of my SSN. Not sure how

She knew NOT to mess with Comrade Slim, si and no man!

They are given voter cards with the date of the election that you need to show to get pretty much anything done in the country. Without it, you're pretty much screwed. If we were to ever go back and he didn't have the most recent card, I'm not sure what we'd do. Pay a fine, maybe?

You must have read Mrs. T-B.'s answer before I posted it, seer man!

Yes and I swam all the way to shore in the icy cold water.

One of the best military-type insults that I've heard is "Your mother swims after troop ships." That one gets better the longer one considers it, sea man.

I get why people come here, but it creates more problems than it solves in their home countries.

Mrs. T-B. says that in Ecu, legitimately granted visas to the U.S. are being canceled left and right, sigh man.

Good, man. You ladies who were taxing our brains while singing about pores were hijacking our thread about Ecu, see man.

Also, gnocchi came out well. I am glad. Salad did too.

Kaopectate or Pepto-Bismol will put a stop to that, si man.

If I said all of the above in one breath, and no one's here on the thread to read it, did it make a sound, huh man?

wth? nothing dropped overnight, will be dropping later in the day.

grrr.

Honeymoon won't be until October time when Amy has time off again. But we will be going to Florida as planned.

Edit: Forgot to mention, SSN was all good and shorter than the usual 2 weeks you suggest (I guess thanks to the automation of the I-94 and therefore entry into SAVE, maybe?). But there was one issue. Where CBP "messed up" (in the words of the SSA staffer), regarding given names (e.g. first and middle combined into first) she managed to override it and separate them for the purposes of my SSN. Not sure how, but clearly this staffer was in the know. If she couldn't do that she said I could modify it after I got the card.

Went to the Warwick, RI office if that helps, Brother D.

that's verra cool ! I've a SSN topic in the ssn subforum.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
