I feel embarrassed, as I should. At 34 years of age I should have been more ...grown up ? Aware ? Less blind ? But I learned a lot from this and I keep learning...it's good in an odd kind of way.

Don't feel embarrassed at all, we've all been there. Hey, I married my ex and that was a shameful thing, especially because everyone told me how much they hated him beforehand. Benefit of a second marriage and a very detailed requirement list is that you know exactly what you want and don't want.

Plus, you had the added difficulty of the cultural differences and maybe not picking up on things you would have otherwise done. I'm lucky that my husband is plain, i.e. what he says is what he thinks and what he will do. From the very beginning he has a been an open and easy to read book and I appreciate and love that about him.

With my ex-husband, it was one mind game after another wrapped in a layer of pure mind . I had to constantly be on the defense and on the attack attempting to figure out his true motives and his next move. I won, but not intentionally, only because I have always since tried to be good and do the right thing. His ####### caught up with him and he is now a broken mess.

Point is, you got to keep on rising to the occasion and living right and good things will come your way.

I do note, in the Northern States that experience ice and snow seasons, the undercarriage must be inspected carefully before purchasing, as most suffer from corrosion from the salt on the roads, and must have many things replaced before becoming a road-worthy vehicle again. Not for the timid, this replacement. Sure, an 800 dollar wagon might seem a good deal, if you budget 3000 to replace most of the undercarriage bits.

In said Northern states, CT for example, it will be difficult to find a car for under 3000. I'm sure someone could find some online, but I have yet to see a Volvo advertised locally, not matter what the year or condition for less than 5k. However, they are usually handed down through the generations and there is no shame, even amongst the most wealthy, of driving an older European car.

So, if someone is not good with the whole refurbishing and what not....a volvo for 10k with 75k miles ? That is reasonable no ?

Seems fine, however I would have a mechanic look at it. I sold my Volvo with 120k and 10 years old back to the dealer for 6k and they resold it for 8k.

maybe. what's the model and year? anything this century is mostly front-wheel drive, and i not like those.

well maintained 740 and 940 can be found under 2K . don't worry about the miles, seek the mechanics logbook and timing belt replacement stickers. not have those, when inspecting? walk away, as current owner is a tardo.

anyway - if you find one well maintained, it's a good purchase. however, scheduled maintenance MUST BE DONE or the car falls apart after the next 10,000 miles. Volvos are unique - if you do the scheduled maintenance religiously, the car will never die. Not do the scheduled maintenance? Well, yer a tardo.

I got 47.2% good and 38.something Lawful.

I am 33.3% good and 12.8% lawful. Apparently so was the dalai lama...

I suggest, instead, a volvo 740 turbo sedan as yer first car in The Americas.

Why? insurance will be cheaper, is very safe if you get in a T-bone accident if you wear the seatbelt, and most other drivers not mess with older Volvos, knowing their car won't survive the wreck.

Then, after a year, go get something newish, you'll have a one year history of driving in the USA, rates will be cheaper for you with 1 year of history.

If you think you'll turn into a reclamation specialist for yer DIY activities, get the station wagon version, instead, as they can haul a lot of gear and kit.

Usually find a well-maintained volvo in the 1200 to 1700 range. Oh, and stay away from mitsubishi eclipse - you will become a stereotype (asian driving rice-burner car, will be challenged by other car club members to race and upgrade - is not nice here, they are very thuggish about it)

car is actually for jonas, i can't drive (yet), but this is useful for once i get my license!

Get a Honda accord!

at the moment, these are going for over 100 grand in Singapore. http://www.honda.com.sg/cars/price_sheet.asp madness...

this is not a proper vehicle for a lady interested in dumpster diving and walking through contruction projects, looking for raw materials for etsy projects.

I can't even take a day off in peace....

I'm now mad at the world....

It is quieter at the office, in general terms, than at home, yes?

I'm a thinking the world needs to receive a fresh batch of home-cooked brownies.
