Because of planning to take half of Friday for Mini-B.'s party anyway, I was offered a stay-away-from-work gig all day, in honor of this lousy Yanqui weather. Having grown up in the Midwest, I know how to drive on stuff like this, but the local yahoos don't. Many people will end up with the imprint of a Ford F-350 in their rear bumpers, sigh man.

I suggest to stay off the roads till after 1 PM today, as the ice is prevalent and the locals not know how to drive on it, turning the drive in, into a game of 4000 pound bumper cars. Tis not a nice game.

he might miss his mom too much but he has the option. If he says he is coming then he is coming but I won't let him tell me 2 weeks after we move that he did not want to do it and just did it for me and I should be grateful cause I will ship him right back where he came from.

Sorry ...apparently we are back to arguing aka not talking and i am no longer capable of going over the same stuff without any reaction whatsoever or excuses that he thinks will cover his ###.

Not a fan of the electric one we have at least. Might as well just shovel. The plastic shoot did break too, just like carry said, but on the hinge and could be fixed, but it is now locked in position.

One of our neighbors had a gas powered one and that was way better even with our short driveways. Added bonus to being able to clean an elderly neighbor's driveway, etc.

Aha ! You and yer neighbors should form a snow-blower co-op, all pitch in with monies, buy ONE super great machine, and share it during the snow season. Replace as necessary.

When you get the first gig and are out of the house for 8 to 10 hours each day, you will go through a paradigm shift. I've already written my opinions about this fella and yer marriage, so I won't be repetitive today, about it.

However, having a gig at your level of work, IMO, trumps a lot of 'current dead time' that you're experiencing inside the domicile, not focus your attention on this tardo of a son.

It'll feel great, to not focus on his ineptitude for 8 to 10 hours each day.

i quoted the wrong post but i'm too lazy to go back and find the right one. was just gonna say that if you were gonna put exlax in anyone's food, it shouldn't be anyone living in your house. otherwise, hope you have someone to clean the bathrooms three-four times/day.

Please understand - the use of exlax is normally a last-resort.

Normally. When talking did not work, when compromise is unavailable, when one is at the bottom of the hierarchy, is best to remove the combatant without using hand-held instruments of death.

Exlax has it's place, and it's uses.

As to giving it to someone living in one's house - well, usually that's done for 'not a spouse', and IME, the cleanup is on the human experiencing the high-velocity evacuations, not the one that made the brownies.

If you'd like to experiment, once you arrive in the USA, try first with giving it to the jehovah's witnesses that show up at yer door on saturday mornings.

I suggest, instead, a volvo 740 turbo sedan as yer first car in The Americas.

Why? insurance will be cheaper, is very safe if you get in a T-bone accident if you wear the seatbelt, and most other drivers not mess with older Volvos, knowing their car won't survive the wreck.

Then, after a year, go get something newish, you'll have a one year history of driving in the USA, rates will be cheaper for you with 1 year of history.

If you think you'll turn into a reclamation specialist for yer DIY activities, get the station wagon version, instead, as they can haul a lot of gear and kit.

Usually find a well-maintained volvo in the 1200 to 1700 range. Oh, and stay away from mitsubishi eclipse - you will become a stereotype (asian driving rice-burner car, will be challenged by other car club members to race and upgrade - is not nice here, they are very thuggish about it)

Well, my second car was a Volvo. Loved that thing to pieces and sorely regret trading it in.

Well, being that I sold my Volvo Station wagon... big truck is new CT housewife's car. I've had to memorize my mother's plate because so many people in town have the exact same black Volvo V70 XC. laughing.gif Mine was at least blue.

Or just don't take him and he can pay his way over if he wants to come. Free to go home if being a PITA.

And I will guarantee that you will meet someone better, perhaps at work. When married to my ex-husband and working to get out from under his thumb, I met this amazing 6'8" guy at work. He used to let me swing off his biceps and pursued me despite me being married. I wish I had taken him up on it, if only for the fun. headbonk.gif

I feel embarrassed, as I should. At 34 years of age I should have been more ...grown up ? Aware ? Less blind ? But I learned a lot from this and I keep learning...it's good in an odd kind of way.

I usually purchase 3 dead, used volvos in a month, every 2 or 3 years, and refurbish them. I am careful during the picking phase, making certain the fix is easy. I tricked out a purple volvo 960 sedan inside and out, thinking Mrs. Darnell would be quite stylish a-driving it. I got too many offers on it from racing chicks last year, and finally sold it for a tidy sum. i'm sure it was the purple-pink neon tubes under the running boards that made it more appealing and attracted a higher price, though.

-=-=-=-=

volvo xc-70 (AWD) are actually worth buying and maintaining. get the towing kit installed, and you gots the perfect luxury vehicle for any reclamation /DiY projects. might even pull a horse trailer with horse inside. Superior ice-road vehicle. I am seriously thinking to get one this weekend or next, thinking it will be the perfect Mrs. Darnell vehicle for her first year of driving.

-=-=-=-=-=

I do note, in the Northern States that experience ice and snow seasons, the undercarriage must be inspected carefully before purchasing, as most suffer from corrosion from the salt on the roads, and must have many things replaced before becoming a road-worthy vehicle again. Not for the timid, this replacement. Sure, an 800 dollar wagon might seem a good deal, if you budget 3000 to replace most of the undercarriage bits.
