don't give up. Growing pains smile.png remember? It's good. If you ask me, get her a pair of skates that is 1/2 size larger than her shoe size (Skates should be half size smaller than shoe size remember?), but get it larger, then shim the ####### out of it with insoles around sole and ankles. That should make it comfy. But it should be tight, remember?

Westchester is far man....

But rest to sure that the kiddo will learn to skate. Floyd Bennett field has a private rink now. "Aviator Skates" or something like that....

Yeah, yeah. There are some places closer in Westchester, though. The one we went to today was like 40 minutes away.

I think we might try it again, maybe with lessons. I'm obviously failing at teaching her.

You gotta get on the ice with her and let her hold onto your belt. That's what I plan to do. But I might break something if I fall.....not a young pup anymore.

It was more like me having to hold onto to her so she wouldn't keep falling. I don't need her pulling my pants down!

Nola, figure skates are easier for a anyone to learn on IMHO. The bottom is flat vs an edge. Only buy skates with laces or the BOA system. If she can get the hang of hockey skates then that's good but maybe start out with the figure skates.

My daughter uses the boa system because she can do it herself. These ones actually. They have good support and are easy to use. BUT they're expensive. If I could find simlilar skates with the padding etc without the BOA system now I would snap them up. Way better than any plastic skates IMHO.

$_35.JPG

Lessons are good if she's never skated before. Put a hockey helmet with mask on her and send her off. They know how to teach her. I know my daughter can actually skate better than I can now and she had one set of lessons!

New upstairs neighbours [...] stomp around elephants

Whether in apartments or in rooms on other-than-the-top-hotel-floor, I would always (no exaggeration) get stuck under a herd of water buffalo or yaks or charging rhinoceri. One upstairs neighbo(u)r sounded like she was on a pogo stick, and she would routinely drop what sounded like bowling balls. My reaction always was, "I don't drop things, no man; why does she, huh man?"

if I don't get the interview [...]

...it's THEIR loss, and who's next?

best invention for mankind is the TV remote.

Interesting, to me, was to read answers, from centenarians who had lived through the entire 20th century, about the most significant technological achievement during their lifetimes. Some answered "space flight" and similar, but more than half said "indoor plumbing," pee man.

OMG I want a slushie from Sonic crying.gif

You're supposed to want mangoes -- very hard, and very green. A mango slushie, from Sonic or elsewhere, would be reasonable, see ma'am.

Why is everyone still talking about ice sports, huh man? Isn't the mere presence of winter enough, brrr man?

GS report:

Arose at o'dark-thirty after perhaps 4 hours of interrupted sleep, because Mrs. T-B. said that if I were to go out before Mini-B.'s party, I needed to be back very early to be of assistance. ("Yes, Dear; si, Cariño.")

Drove to first GS. A lot of stuff, but mostly junk. Found a full box of staples for 25 centavos, whee man.

Drove to second GS, in a church auditorium. Much stuff, mostly junk. Found 2 hand-towels + 2 washcloths. Waited in line for an unnecessary 15 minutes while the head lady, a bossy broad, loudly threw her ample weight around in response to customers' questions. At head of line, Bossy saw the 2 hand-towels and said loudly, "One dollar. Those are 50 cents each." The contiguous lady, struggling with the cash box, took my dollar and gave me 50 cents in change. Neither saw the 2 washcloths betwixt the towels, no man. Therefore, I got 4 bath linens for 12.5 cents each, whee man.

Drove to third GS, in a hyskool gymnasium. Less stuff than the preceding one. Was sorely tempted by a new-in-opened-box Sears 52" ceiling fan for $10, plus its lighting attachment for $10, but could not justify the purchase in terms of immediate need or storage space, and was flirting with being home late for Mrs. T-B. Left without buying anything.

Raced home; followed commands of She Who Must Be Obeyed; lay down on couch while Mini-B. merrily played with his trains. Got phone call, 30 minutes before party, from lady at consignment shop, who said that they'd sold their nearby location's space to someone and that Sunday was their last day, and all consignors who wanted to retrieve their stuff needed to get it all today or tomorrow. Whoopee, man.

Had Mini-B.'s party at 1:30 amongst a dozen family members. Mini-B. was good-humored and jovial the entire time. Managed to serve two flavors of ice cream without spilling any or dripping much. Last of invitees cleared out by 4:15; helped Mrs. T-B. clean up the most obvious of the messes; despite palpable wish for a nap, set out at 5 to consignment shop to retrieve what could be found to be retrieved.

In 90 minutes, retrieved perhaps 60% of stuff; got store credit for $10.95 and (in writing) that it would never expire; loaded rescued items into T-B.-mobile and hightailed it to the next-nearest branch of the store, 25 miles distant. Reached store at 7:10p; dropped stuff; browsed; found Nautica dress/casual shirt for $24.99 but everything was 50% off and had store credit so after tax paid $2.58 and it was starched and smelled good so I can wear it "off the rack," whee man.

Drove home exhaustedly; arrived 8:30p; fed insistent cat; played "chase the wadded-up aluminum-foil ball" with insistent cat; weakly took out party-garbage; weakly took shower; warshed several zillion kitchen rags; dozed off multiple times during late TV news; warshed standard-Saturday-night-plus-special party dishes; folded kitchen rags; logged on to VJ; dozed off multiple times while reading/typing. Am waiting for dishwarsher to stop; shall then de-dish, minister to cat who is sound asleep now but will certainly come alive, and fall into bed like a dead thing, zzz man. Too tired to surf all forums on company-man business, zzz man.
