And now. For my next selfless act. Go sit in 2 hrs of traffic to go 17 miles to Newark. Just so the lil brat gets to see Pocahontas on skates.....

sorry for the wrong smiley position. It just looks so much better lying on something and not floating.

Man I love hockey. In fact, I'm going to prudential center now. (The Devils)

Suprisingly, my wife is a Houston Rockets Fan (basketball). OK - maybe NOT surprisingly. I scored on someone else's box seats for 6 games in February, so we'll be living large at the Toyota Center.

I not like watching hockey on TV, but i'll go see a game.. Futbol, otoh, omg - I'll watch futbol almost any time.. (yes, I do mean soccer)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Debating whether to take the little one ice skating for the first time tomorrow. Decisions. Decisions.

Also, I managed to get spray paint dust/foot prints on the basement floor. I thought I had adequately tarped. Acetone did not work that well and the oven cleaner worked too well - where I cleaned the floors look like brand new! I've run out of oven cleaner and I fear that if the queen finds it, I am in for it. crying.gif

Definitely! But I think the best way to start a kid ice skating is not on rentals - they're stiff, they sometimes stink and they hurt. You can get inexpensive kid skates on Amazon that will be much better fitted and have at least some cushion to support tiny feet. I used to coach and it killed me to see so many kids cry the moment the skates are on cos they pinch or it makes their arches or shins hurt.

I actually bought a pair of adjustable ones. http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=21306486&locale=en_US&clickid=prod_cs&recid=Product_PageElement_product_rr_1_37

I don't know how good they are, but it seemed silly buying a pair of figure skates when her feet keep growing.

I've got my own figure skates from when I used to actually be good at it. I sold my hockey gear long ago, though.

no toepick?! quel dommage! tongue.png pretty neat that they're adjustable though smile.png

I kind of thought the toe pick would be a liability for a clumsy 5 year old whose never skated before?

Any tips for beginning skaters?

there's pros and cons...having a rounded blade towards the front means you'll be less aware of yourself slipping foward till it's too late. the plus side is that the fall won't be as abrupt as if you tripped over your toepick. i like to play tippytoes with my tots skating class which is where the toepick comes in handy. do 'marching' (start with marching on the spot then move to small steps forward), and progress into two-foot gliding. once she's got a good glide, she'll be whizzing round the ice. :)

and as all coaches would say "arms up!" helps you find your centre of gravity hehe.

I just got back from the rink, and SIL won't leave me alone. Hounding me to write a power of attorney for her cousin to bring the kid back from Malaysia. I keep telling her he doesn't need it. She keep insisting on it. So I say OK, I'll do it for you. She's still on and on about why she need it......

OK, STFU already, I said I'll do it.....

I think she wants me to do it like, right now?
