There millions of pets in north america who need yearly shots etc. For one dog we had, to keep him alive it cost us close to 5k and that was with the vet absorbing some of the cost because of a rarely done procedure. My horse cost 600 just for a vet to come out and pull a dead foal. The c-section was 3k minimum. Animals Are expensive. If a stallion that charged 2k for each mare to be bred gets sick, its worth it to the owner to pay whatever the charge is to fix him. Also Many people dont get Pet insurance, but its a good thing.

But the same things done on a human is going to cost 5 to 10 times as much. That 3K c-section would be 15K on a human. That huge difference affects what people taking care of animals are paid.

Yes there are millions of pets, but many people neglect to get their vaccinations. Many people say it costs a thousand dollars to get him better, well I guess he's dead. Yes there are those that will pay what it takes to keep their pets healthy, but there are also many that won't or simply can't. And there's no law saying a vet has to treat a sick animal, with the fed coming in and covering the bills later, like happens in the health care system for humans.

I have the old yahoo finance pegged on the Firefox home page. It comes up as the old one. the new one sucks eggs.

Yahoo ruined their regular home page too.

I am gonna make Tiff pay for the summons

BTW, there's no cuch thing as a ticket in NYC. It's officially known as a "summons"

I'm going to Costco, you guys want anything?

Why are you showing us a picture of Dutch? smile.png

I don't like yahoo's page either. I avoid it like the plague. But my thoughts are you somehow set some things in your yahoo profile to make the new page look something like the old.

Whats a cuch thing? Is that how you folks in NY say couch?

When my wife first found coach bags, and all the Filipinas go crazy over coach bags, she pronounced it as it would be pronounced in her native language. It sounded like couch. She kept bringing up, I want a new couch, I want a new couch. I took her out and we bought new furniture, including a new couch. Imagine my surprise to later learn she wanted a couple hundred dollar Coach bag.

How did Nola get my graduation picture?

Well in canada many people dont have to pay for health care and if you do have provincial premiums its like $250 every 3 months. You dont pay to have a c-section, cancer treatment or a broken leg. My mother is one of those people who will pay out the nose to save a pet. Me, not so much (hence I chose to have the foal pulled vs a c-section, horse wasn't worth that much.) But a vet makes 70-100k a year. I dont claim to understand it, but it is what it is. A vet tech in canada makes up to $25/hr but start at $14 or 15. Here they start at $10.

Obviously medical doctors are paid more than vets and many oil workers make a killing. Lawyers are still paid a premium as well. I never said vets make more than medical doctors or lawyers, just that they were highly paid professionals, some of the top in canada, of the same grade as medical, lawyer, dentist, etc... I'm not sure at all why it feels like we're arguing this? Unless my annoyance with the USA at the moment seems To be striking a cord. Which I apologize for. My annoyance with a system I dont understand is largely due to my lack of understanding why it would work the way it does. Plus I miss home. Plain and simple. Im happy to be going back to visit.

Hit the gym early this morning, got home to make lunch and have a shower, and in a bit my step dad and I are going to go look at a used car for hubby and me. Quite excited. :)

Tonight is date night, and hubby wants to go to the movies. Any suggestions on what we should see? I don't even really know what's in the theaters right now, to be honest.

We saw "her" last week...it was good but depressing or sad ...in my opinion.

Going to go see Mitty next..on Sunday so I guess I won't be able to tell you before you go smile.png

Saw Hobbit II that was fun, loved it more than Hobbit I but that is most likely because of Orlando Bloom blush.png

47 Ronin...I so want to see that one. Oh and saw Frozen..that was so good and fun and awesome (and you have to stay till the end of credits for a disclosure on boogers and a small video...)

sidenote: I am drinking "love" green tea with coconut and strawberries

It is a supply/demand issue for vet techs here. Lots of people want to be vet techs and it doesn't take much training, so the pay is low. I don't consider 70-100 to be that high paying. so maybe vets in America make that much, but that makes them middle class, IMO. A lot of doctors here are making 300k+, with the exception of GPs and pediatricians. Lawyer pay is pretty variable in America and a lot of them are not making good money and are desperate for work.

You'll find that if you don't have a high education or some luck it is hard to get out of poverty or the $10/hour job market. My husband was incredibly lucky here that he found a job that had a starting pay of $15/hr despite him having no high school diploma (even his previous job of super here only pays $10). There is a huge disparity between the rich and the poor in CT, but there is also a big social safety net.

Complain away, I think it is a problem. The incomes are too disparate and despite what people will say a CEO in this country does not need to be paid what they are being paid.
