That's good. I remember that kind of stuff from when I was younger, but they don't do it here, maybe because pretty much all of the kids are crazy smart? I've made a choice that seems a bit more common among Jewish families, but I've chosen not to push my daughter academically. I won't test her IQ or push her into reading. The pre-K at the synagogue here teaches like that, but most of my daughter's classmates went to one of these ritzy pre-Ks that just goes over the top with academics.

The kiddo is in a good pre-k. So far, I've taught her what she's willing to absorb. I know she's very good in arithmetic. She's even doing finger math with an abacus. She's good at solving those....thingys in the assessments books, without instruction.

She's a chip off the old block I tell ya :)

But I sure don't like to tell people how good she is, or how smart she is. If others see it, then they do. If they don't, then they don't. The point was well proven when she visited Malaysia.

The abacus.....

In some schools in Asia (HK, Japan, Taiwan) The kids are required to bring an abacus to school. They are taught to use it so much, that they memorize the positioning of the fingers against the beads, and by 5th grade or so, they eliminate the abacus, and the kids use their fingers on the desk to solve complex equations. (Like playing an "air guitar").

In Canada. The kids from HK has driven up the math scores to a top of the world spot.

i know the leave time and scheduled arrival time. the hospital is just down the train-track from my school. I will shift outta here in the next 10 minutes.

is all a shock. dad has a stroke and my wife arrives tomorrow. i am certain i won't cope with much and did not bother to hire a personal assistant this season, thinking i wouldn't need one. I'll fob off much to my wife's personal assistant and maybe be ok.

That's tough. I wish I was in a better geographical location to help you out.

The only thing I can offer is moral support.

Good Luck!

Well, if genetics have anything to do with it, her father and I both have more than adequate IQs, but frankly I just don't care. I know that sounds kind of rough, but I almost hope for my daughter's sake that she's got an IQ more in the 125 range than any higher because it brings with it its own set of problems.

And she's Asian, of course she is good at math. laughing.gif

I'm eying this sucker here....it's fairly close to my property, like 3 miles.....

OK, time to go pick up the kid. And then beat her up smile.png

Not that you would live there, but those school ratings are terrible.
