That's a terrible rule! God, I can't believe that.

All I want (and this is all just an idea because at this point, children are only an idea) is for my children to have dual citizenship. I don't know how it works and I'm not concerned about it atm.

Though that makes me think of the fact that we're not getting any younger and omg pressure and omg fb friends having babies and babies everywhere.

I love a guy who looks like he could be on Criminal Minds as either an agent or a killer.

I can actually tell you how it works!

You have baby, British spouse contacts British embassy, y'all submit paperwork, a British birth registration for child is issued, and then you can get a UK passport (you might be able to do it at the same time). That British birth registration is all you need for citizenship purposes and residing in England, although there will be some additional paperwork once in the UK, if you decide to move there - for NHS purposes, etc.

<---- Has a British birth registration thingy and a UK passport, so kind of knows a little about it

I'm keeping you around! Does it matter if he doesn't elect to have citizenship here? I don't think it would, but gods know I am dumb in this respect.

So your parents are an intl couple?

I don't think it does Wacko. The child would be a dual citizen either way really - American from you, British from Ali. He just has to do what Nola said and file a report of birth abroad at the UK Embassy in DC via post.

On the topic of passports? Nada. The embassy stopped doing passports some time ago now. You have to send the stuff back to Old Blighty and it costs quite a bit.

Nope, he can be a LPR or even just here on a tourist visa. I believe the law has changed so that you don't even need to be married anymore? It was a big deal for people in my generation to prove legitimacy to get a UK birth registration or passport.

My mother met my bio-dad when she was studying in England, they moved to America, had me....got divorced.... maybe he just used her for the greencard. Hard to say, but coming from his really poor background at that time in England - with an older more educated American woman and really pushing for America and my relatives pulling similar things, well, you get the picture.

The usual.

Lots of people here in the CT/NY area married to Brits, my aunt likes to joke there are more of them here than in England!

No time like the present to have babies, though. You never know what issues you will have. We've been trying now since September of 2012 and very likely we won't be able to have kids without IVF. I'm glad we didn't wait, though.

So, Wheatley, how many people have commented on your accent since you've come to America?

Damn lady. My bio-dad peaced out too.

I want to visit!

Shenan! Are you still doing IVF? I've heard differing opinions on how it works for people. I think I have an idea of your age, but do you mind my asking how old you two are?

I've had no overt comments. But at least two people in the past 10 days have done a double-take and asked me to repeat myself upon hearing it. I guess that could count as a comment of sorts.

I just turned 27, god I am old, and the Dane is 28.

We are waiting a little while on doing IVF because we've being going back and forth a lot on doing it - its expensive and invasive. Plus, I need to lose my back to American weight. crying.gif

For us, it is a mixed bag whether it will work, but we have to talk to the doctor about maybe doing half fertilization with the eggs, with half being done with donor stuff. Scandinavians in general seem to be sub-fertile and have chromosomal defects. Maybe its the inbreeding, or pollution, or nature's way of making sure the land doesn't get over populated. *shrugs*

Gosh you say old and I feel old! I'm 26 and Ali is 28.

I can't imagine what going through that is like. I hope you can figure it out! It's horrible, but if you have sextuplets, I am a great babysitter!

It does seem like the NOA came right after the ICE arrest. He is probably kicking himself for not hiring a good immigration attorney to fight that case for him.

He should be kicking himself over that one.

Luckily, you didn't have to do a learner's permit like we had to do in CT. That was pretty pointless.

Written test equals learners permit in Minnesota. Aliban passed the written test so he has the learners permit.
