Ours finally has been easier to find most of the time the kids put it where it belongs.

I can see my husband playing with this contraption, and a giant hole quickly forming in our ceiling.

Ours usually gets put back where it goes, but we do have those times where someone shouts through the house, "Who used the remote last? Where is it?!"

A 2-year-old (at least until Friday) runs the operation, and Mrs. T-B. is not to be trifled with when under stress, wee and no man. It is suspected that Mrs. T-B. misplaced the remote, she man.

So I was talking to Jonas about how I'm a little anxious about moving over in May, because I've never lived away from my parents, except for the four years at uni, and even then, I went home every fortnight or so. He got kinda worried when I said I'd be "depressed" at the beginning, so he started a thread in the "moving here and your new life" forum about 'fitting in in America' but has forbidden me to read it.

I don't think I worry so much about fitting in but I do think that there'll be a teething period where I'll be missing my family, friends, job, stability, etc. I liked the US just fine as a tourist (shopping, bar food, mmm), and I was fine with the foreign label as a tourist, because I know that my stay there is just temporary. But I don't really know what to expect when I cross over from 'tourist' to 'immigrant'. Maybe it's partly to do with the fact that in Singapore, there has been increasing animosity towards "foreigners" and I'm conditioned to expect the same in the US (hopefully unwarranted)?

I also lived in Indonesia for a while on my own, and although everyone there was great about meeting a new "foreign friend", sometimes I just wanted to be...normal, you know? *Not* foreign. Just a regular person going about their day, who didn't have to ask for directions to the grocery store or look twice at the money they're handing over cos they're unfamiliar with the foreign currency.

Anyway, sorry for the long wall of text, heh. I have stayed away from the thread as instructed, but may give in to temptation tonight (Singapore time) and sneak a peek.

This reminds me of how Mini-B. describes his older, feline, quite-corpulent sister: "Soft and juicy!"

Rant: The across-the-street neighbor's mongo oak tree is toying with all of us, leaf man. I raked a 95-gallon trash bin's worth of dead leaves from the curb on Monday night, and the contiguous neighbor (who is at the wrongest spot on the block in terms of receiving anything washed or dropped or thrown or blown) had his yard crew rake up Many bags of leaves on Tuesday morn. Tonight, everything is as it was, sigh man, and I shall again become rakish tomorrow night when the garbage is set out, achingback man.
