My concern is that so many people seem to be rushing into these visas without taking the time necessary to properly get to know their partners. And by that I mean actually spending a lot of in person time. I know its expensive to fly to some of these countries. Hell I am 18000 dollars in debt from trips to Jamaica. But I wanted to take my time and get to know my husband to be confident that he was the one for me and that his intentions were genuine. Getting engaged to someone you've never met and thinking about filing for someone you've never met is crazy. You are just setting up yourself for heartbreak. And it bothers me when people talk about just meeting in person to fulfill a requirement. Marriage is a lot of work not something to be treated lightly. Sorry I'll stop lecturing now Lol.

My work has specific restrictions about me being to a foreign national living in another country. So I would be prevented from marrying my now husband until I retire because Gowan doesn't like K1's The people that get here on a K1 and get sent home without marriage are a minority and suffer from the same lack of knowing the person they are committed to that people who marry someone that takes off as soon as the greencard/10 year card/citizenship suffer from. I think the K1 should use the I864 not the I134 but it has it's place You can go over marry someone and be on a flight home the same day and not know their spouse at all but still manufacture all the evidence recommend in the oft posted scammers guide to a visa.

I agree with this about the K1. There are varies reasons why many need a K1 instead of a CR1. I have my own reasons as well.

One size does not fit all. Life plays out too diverse circumstances to all be lumped into the same bowl of cherries and the one track

mind for the CR1 being the only way to go. Just because someone assumes anyone can marry in a foreign country does not make it so.

Not sure what you mean about the often posted scammers guide to a visa though. I don't see anything wrong with how to post

to help a couple succeed and one can not control who is a scammer and who is genuine when advising in a public forum such as this.

But yes, evidence can be manufactured and love can be faked, K1 just as much as CR1. Marrying in front of the family doesn't

mean too much as they are often 'in on it' expecting a nice little monetary something since money grows on trees here. Their

son or daughter, sister or brother has 'arrived' and climbed up in life using the USC as a stepping stone and thus they will share the

reaping.

So, there is no difference as far as K1 versus Cr1 bona fide fluff when you look deeper.

I still believe the CR1 is stronger and easier to get but the K1 should not be abolished, it serves a purpose.

When all is said and done I wish people would take accountability for their choices 'when things fall apart' (pun intended) instead of

bashing an entire country and calling them scammers as soon as the relationship fails. I am truly sick and tired of Nigerian bashing.
A gazillion red flags overlooked, yet forging ahead and going straight into pointing fingers and the blame game as the grand finale !

So we all make mistakes and we all have displayed poor judgement in our lives at one time or another, that does not mean we can now

condemn an entire country for our failed relationship. If you want to play you got to pay, choices and consequences....such is life.

Take responsibility for your own actions is my mantra.

Time for self examination not scapegoating and deflecting away from our own decision to date or marry a particular person.

Yes, Nigeria is a high fraud country but helloooo.....do your homework and look before you leap. There are awesome people of integrity who

happen to be Nigerians ! Vent over *

I actually think that they should cancel the K1 visa completely or make in non available in non VWP countries at least.

Yeah, all those 1st week CR-1s will be much better than K-1s. Then once they're in the US they can go straight to leaving the USC without any of that pesky waiting for documentation.

I wanted to inquire about a K-1 visa process. My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting married but have yet to meet - how can you consider marrying someone you haven't even met? From the highest fraud country in the world? Wow, good luck with that

I was going to comment on the same thing too. How can someone consider marrying someone they have never meet before in real life. Marriage is a very big deal and should be a life time commitment and chatting with someone on face book or talking on the phone everyday is not enough to want to jump into marriage with the person. These days some people can portray to be what they are not online and even on the phone so be careful because it happens everyday. I think you should visit more than once, get to know each other really well in real life. You fall in love with personality but you live with character, you can get along with someone on the phone but that does not mean you get along in real life. I wish you the best of lucks and I hope it works out for you.

I say he keeps trying for his tourist visa, until he gets it.

Sure, I'm quoting myself, but since you two haven't met yet and you have difficulties in getting there,

I still suggest he try again,

and let the NIV Unit vette him. If they approve of a tourist visa for him, maybe he's got the assets needed to support a wife in the USA after he arrives, and

thusly moves out , in a righteous fashion, of the 'possible Visa Scammer' category.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

It's incredibly expensive absolutely for someone that wants to make sure that they're ina committed relationship. One visit = cheap, 3 to 4 visits = pricey.

I'm trying to put together a chart to see how many K1 versus CR1 fails.

I want to validate my opinion that CR1 folks have a higher chance of success relationship wise than K1s. I think it's harder to fake through a marriage (definetly possible) in Nigeria if it wasn't a fly by night wedding but a proper one in church with at least 100 guests, reception, etc

Are you going to include IR1 people in it as well? I'd be interested to see those numbers. What length of relationship would you consider successful?

CR1 or IR1 same difference for this sampling.

I think if couples remain together past citizenship at approximately 3 years then the chance that it was a scam marriage lessens. Of course there is nothing scientific about this.

What do you think?

Cr1/IR1 out of a sampling of just over 10562 petitions 6780 have final approval ( 64.3% )

for K1 same time out of 36288 petitions 27266 have final approval ( 75%)

On a 2010 immigration report on non immigrant visas from the DOS they reported ratios of denials to visa approvals was 1 to 94.5 for K1 and k2 visas

So it seems there are more K petitions and they are actually approved at a higher rate than Cr/Ir ones

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Past Citizenship, or past entry/AOS? IR1 isn't the same thing though, because that would include people who've already been married at least 2 years. I understand that some people will wait it out, just to get that green card, but I have to think that the number of people staying married for that long probably have a very low rate of fraud. It might skew the numbers to include them with the CR1's. (I'd still like to see the numbers, though.)

What do you think?

There is no need whatsoever for someone to stay until citizenship if he is intent on leaving. Immigrants can ROC on their own

after divorcing when they can proof they entered the marriage genuinely. What is the point in waiting until citizenship ?

Not a good gauge to measure sincerity.

If the USC has not figured out by then if it is true or blue, then she/he is clearly not intuitive and missing something and it is straight

up in lala land.

Length of time in a relationship does not mean much, the quality, heartfelt love, respect and consistency and effort put into the

relationship does,be it K1 or CR1, IR1 or XYZ.

Sufficient time has to be invested to peek a person out before jumping in head over heels and engaging or marrying but that goes for here, there or anywhere and that is the key to stepping it up. All too often that does not happen and people are on a race to bliss....or not.

If someone stays for 3-5 years and then splits, chances are the dynamics of the relationship aren't working and it was not fraud

and I guarantee you signs of ill intent will show themselves much sooner unless one is too naive to miss it or refuses to see it.
