Just wondering how the OAS process went for other couples out there. We're getting married in just over a weeks time and will need to apply from K1 to OAS afterwards. smile.png

Whats an OAS? Do you mean AOS (adjustment of Status)? Just checking to be sure.

lol Don't worry! I'm glad you pointed it out. I can't believe how many times I typed it incorrectly haha.

There seems to be so much involved with the AOS and I feel like we have such a small amount of time to do it in!

Don't get scared of the AOS. Honestly when I put mine together I thought it was way easier than the k1. A lot of information you already gathered together, you don't need to gather evidence to proof your relationship and you're able to do it while being with your loved one.

And you have all the time in the world to do it ;) there's no set time frame for when you have to submit your paperwork. It only took me 3 days to put it all together tho, so you definitely can do it!

Congrats on the upcoming wedding tho!!

I also thought the AOS paperwork was a breeze. Everything I needed was already in our file. It took almost a week of a few hours each day, but not hard work. As has been stated, the only time limit is to get married within 90 days. Filing AOS is up to you, but when the I-94 expires she will start to accumulate overstay.

It was easier than putting up a K1 packet probably because we are already familiar with some of the paper work. Just to make sure to include all the necessary documents needed for the application. Before I moved here i already prepared some of the documents needed. :) everything went fine and VJ really helped us alot! :)

Goodluck!

Thank you everyone. That's very relieving to hear how you all found it easier than the K1 :)

haha, I definitely won't be waiting til the I-94 expires. We plan on applying as soon as we get the marriage certificate!
Though I was told that our medical would expire March 17, 2014 so we have to apply before that date??? My fiance only had his medical in September.

For the affidavit of support, could we just reuse what we included in our K1 packet? Or do we have to fill them all out again. My parents are helping co sponsor my fiance which is why I ask. Otherwise I'll have to get all their information together before March when apparently our medical expires.

The affidavit is a whole new form for the AOS. 9 pages long!! So you definitely need the I-864 not the I-134. That'll be some paperwork for you but nothing crazy.

And the medical is good if you file within a year of the medical overseas. See here..

Section III number 3.. All you gotta submit is a copy of the vaccination form which you should have.

Awesome, thank you both :) I don't know why in the world we were told the medical would expire in March, but its comforting to know we have more time than what we originally thought! I suppose everyone going through this is just so scared of messing anything up!
