evidence and proof for AOS interview

I am getting ahead of myself here as we just filed for AOS for my husband in December, but I want to be prepared ahead of time so that we don't have to stress out. We got married on K-1 visa, and I am trying to think of evidence we have to proof that we are a bona fide marriage. We are living with my grandmother, so none of the bills are in our name. Since he doesn't have EAD yet, we haven't been able to open a joint bank account. I don't have a credit card and really don't want to get one, but I will if it would be super beneficial for AOS. We have Christmas cards and letters with both our names as well as a couple cards sent by some family for our wedding. We had a civil ceremony with only a few family members present and did not make any wedding invitations. What else should I look for, or create in the months we have before we have our interview?

If you're working, put him on your health insurance, life insurance, etc.. Then you could claim him in your 2013 tax return and when he has his EAD and SSN you could put him on your bank account.

Those would be my suggestions. Since we are in a similar situation (we live with my in laws) we didn't know what to come up with. And if you're lucky you won't even have an interview and won't need any evidence before the ROC.

Good luck with your AOS!

We also living together with a relitive in her house. So I made copies of the envelopes with our both names on it, we both having the same health insurance, we attent a church, because of that we got a record what we donated to the church and we created a joint accont. That task was not so easy, but The bank of America will not ask for your SSN = Sozialsecurity Number. I still got none.

Warm regards

Proving bonafide relationship during AOS interview isn't as difficult as during Removal of conditions. In fact, you may even not get any interview for AOS. But if you do and successfully pass it in just over 21 months since you get a green card you will need to remove conditions on it and to do that you'll need to prove your marriage is genuine throughout the whole marriage not just most recent months. So start preparing now, definitely open a bank account! You don't need ead to do it.

It is not where I breathe but where I love that I live.

I went to my bank and asked about opening a joint account and was told that we had to wait for EAD. Is that wrong, or are banks just different with their rules about that? Also, I file taxes every year although I don't make enough money to be required to do it. Can I just file jointly even if he isn't working or have a social security number yet?

Wrong from my experience - my fiance and I opened an account in both names (as we've not married yet) without any problems. We both have checking accounts with Wells Fargo so not sure if that was a help or not. Certainly didn't blink at our request. Will do the name change once we're married.

I was not asked to provide evidence at the interview but the officer told us that evidence is crucial for removal of conditions.

I had already added my wife to my bank account. This was done before she received her EAD. She did not have a SSN at that point either. Our bank only needed her passport which contained the K1 visa. Our bank did not even require to see our marriage certificate.

I later also added her name to my credit card...that requires her to have a SSN which she had at that point.

Also added her to my medical insurance plan.

In my experience these are easy things to do and something you should do sooner rather than later.

During my wifes AOS interview we had yesterday, the interviewing officer told me to be sure to front load when we apply for ROC. He went on and gave us a number of suggestions including: joint helath club membership (i.e. LA Fitness), purchase a car jointly and have us both on the title/registration, health insurance, life insurance, joint credit cards, bank accounts, on and on, also told us how important the pictures will be, mentioned to be sure we are together standing infront of, as an example the sign in Las Vegas that says Welcome To Las Vegas. Very good advice.
