The rate is per 100K. Doesn't matter. Our homicide rate is not one of the lowest in the world as you claimed.

Our homicide rate is 4.7 per 100,000 or .000047 if we show it in decimal form. The best and brightest countries have 1 or less per 100,000 so we'll show that as .000010.

Well, no. Your misunderstandings appear to come from your poor command of basic math.

In mathematical terms it is like this: 315,000,000 / 100,000 * 4.7 = 14,805.

14,805 ≠ 0

If the homicide rate were more in line with that of our per nations (say at 1.2) the math would work out like this: 315,000,000 / 100,000 * 1.2 = 3,780

So more than 11,000 people would not be killed each year if we could bring our homicide rate in line with that of our peer nations. To put it in perspective, we could avoid the casualties of tragic events like 9/11 more than three times each and every year. That's what the debate is about.

Since you're a math guy why don't you add up the number of "victims" killed in our urban areas while involved in felony crimes and compare/contrast that with our overall homicides. I'd bet my ammo stash it's appx equal to 11,000.

Why is victims in parenthesis? Is Heaven Sutton less of a victim because she lived in an urban area? When did it become a crime to sell lemonade in front of your house? Was she on her way to becoming a criminal mastermind at the tender age of 7 when she was gunned down?

How about Hadiya Pendleton? Is 15 the legal age to be a menace to society? Was standing in a park with her friends the reason she had to be killed? She performed at the Obama inauguration, maybe that's a crime within itself.

What about the young mother was shot in the back of the head? Her crime? Putting her baby in the car seat. I guess that's punishable by death now a days.

Try learning to tell the difference between victim and criminal. You seem to be having trouble with it.

Were acting like new gun laws are going to stop criminals from commitng more crimes. It wont. It cant. Theyre already breaking the law. Will more laws make that better?
