Two thirds of homicides are committed with firearms. About half of the suicides attempts are carried out with a firearm - and firearms have the highest success rate in those attempts. Firearms are the choice for murderers and suicidal persons alike. Not cars, not hand and feet, not hammers, not knives, not ropes, not burgers and fries and not pills. Guns. Plain and simple.

It's laughable that you think guns are a bigger problem than medicine. Big pharma kills people all the time - and gets away with it! Consider prescription drug abuse and how that plays into gun crime as well. And lets not even get started on illegal drugs.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/23/us/texas-truck-wreck/ Only 14 in this "high capacity assault truck" but it's probably okay with you since it was an accident. "Deaths only count when they're intentional." If that's the case, why do anti-gunners always count suicides in gun deaths?

Are you alleging black people and middle eastern folks are now targeted the same by our intrusive government? Wow, man. Wow. I knew you were always a, "the man is out to get me" guy but I didn't realize it was that tinfoil hatty. Congrats! Malcolm X would be proud!

It's even more laughable that as many people are killed by guns every year, you seem not to care.

So, you're comparing a truck wreck to someone who walking into a school and starts shooting? Do you really want to make that comparison?

Did you forget that less than 50 years ago, the system was against anyone of color? Muslims still face bias every day in this country. Not to mention the blatant racism blacks and other minorities face. Or is that all in my head?

The same way when you buy a gun. I'd be a tad bit concerned if some gun comes in and buys a ton of ammo with his purchase.

so those who already have a nice stockpile are safe :)

tell me how you'll register ammo.

Imagine having to register each round by head stamp.

I think Marvin means have a permit to buy ammo. He mentioned FOID so I assume he is in IL.

On a slight tangent, I hate when people say - oh well it easier buying ammo then medicine. I'm originally from Saint Louis and I went back home this Christmas. I kid you not, they wanted me to have a prescription for sudafed.

Next time some one says its easier to buy ammo then medicine respond by telling them its too damn hard to buy medicine. Why should I need a prescription just because some idiot down the street has a methlab. /rant

And yet countries that ban guns have almost exactly the same homicide rate as we do. That's odd. It's like people are going to kill each other regardless.

I don't care if people are killed by guns anymore than if they're killed by lightning. People get killed. It happens. As a matter of fact, every one of us is going to die someday.

I don't compare truck wrecks (that happen every day) to school shootings (that happen very seldom) because it doesn't matter. People are going to die one way or another and making more laws to restrict our rights isn't going to help that. It's only going to leave us with less rights.

The blatant racism you talk about existed 50 years ago. Today, it's self-inflicted. I don't feel sorry for those so-called "victims" either. Time to become an American.

so those who already have a nice stockpile are safe smile.png

Nope. Obama and 'nem are going to try their best to take it away.

Look at the lines of sheep lining up in Connecticut to register magazines. They'll paperwork us to death and those who resist will be institutionalized or blacklisted from society in another way. How anyone can ignore the similarities to historical tyrannies the world over is beyond me.

Obama and 'nem aren't stupid. They've studied. They've learned. They've adapted. We must do the same.

Well, it is a nice change to see a president sticking up for his own country.

It's nice to see you support dictators in foreign countries but accuse your own president of being a dictator when he isn't one, which can be readily proved conclusively. It must be quite strange to hold such contradictory views in you head at one time, a special talent.

That's about the most paranoid display I have seen in a while. So what if you have to fill in a few forms to get ammunition? I applaud that idea, there should be some checks on such purchases. However, to suggest that people who want to purchase ammunition will be institutionalised and 'blacklisted from society' without cause is inane.

Funny, Japan bans guns, how many homicides do they have a year? Answer 442. That's two months worth of killing here. And that's for the whole year. That's not even gun violence, that's everything. I read somewhere it's like less than 20 for gun violence.

You don't have to care, it's your opinion, but to those who've lost all their sons and daughters to gun violence, they might disagree with you.

Self inflicted? Getting locked up for buying an expensive belt? Getting locked up for standing on a bus corner? Getting arrested for waving at a police officer while riding on a bike? Man, I need to be more careful.

You have to give these kids a break. They are simply repeating that which they heard on the radio or on some backwood secret doomsday prepping town hall meeting. I am sure they have trouble understanding what they are trying to repeat.

Putin was elected just like Obama. His people love him just like Obama's people love Obama. The difference is Putin is doing what he can to improve Russia's situation. Obama is doing what he can to worsen America's situation.

Look at homicide rates per country. We're among the lowest in the world. Don't take my word for it. Look it up.

Filling out papers to buy ammo? Did the founders forget that part when they wrote the 2nd Amendment?

I did. :)

So if we sort the countries by homicide rate and start with the best and work our way down, we're taking spot #105 out of 209 available. That puts the US in the bad half of countries. Those where the homicide rates are high. Now out of that worst bunch we're the best but that is not particularly comforting, is it? Among our peers, we're ranking really bad. Our homicide rate (4.7) is more than twice that of the next peer nation which would be Finland (2.2). Then there are nine peer nations with homicide rates between 1 and 1.7 and twelve with homicide rates of less than 1. Sorry, but your claim doesn't hold water.
