Good day,

Today I applied to get a SSN. I answered the application form with my first name as K*** E*****, middle name as Y*** and last name as G*****. When my number was called the officer told me that the data that I entered was wrong, he said that I have no middle name. The name that was entered in the database was K*** E***** Y*** and he said I have no middle name. He said that when he enters my middle name as separate with my first name, it doesnt appear in the database. He said that they can't do anything about it and continue with my application for my SSN. I don't know if anyone has the same problem, will this create a problem in the future? Btw, I am still waiting for my green card, USCIS ELIS still reviewing my case and still on Accepted status. I entered US on December 19, 2013. Can anyone help me? or enlighten me with this problem. Thanks

To get the correct information into the SAVEdata base, you will need to go to a CBP deferred inspection site to get this corrected as it is the CBP that entered the data incorrectly. You will have this problem even if you show the SSA person your GC when it arrives as your name in the database look up is not correct. Best to get it fixed while you wait for your GC. Your SSC will have the name as it was in the database lookup with Y*** as your lastname.

Good luck,

Dave

Thank you for the response, Dave.

No, it said their that my last name is G*****. They only said that I have no middle name, that my first name and my middle name became one because when they enter the my middle name, nothing appears in the database. Do I need to do the cbp deferred inspection thing? Thanks.

Sorry I misunderstood your problem. It depends on you whether you want it fixed or not. According to SSA your legal name is your first and last with no middle name required. So according to your SSC it will look like first middle last, but the database will have first name field = "first middle" and the middle name field="" and the last name field ="last". It could be a problem when you decide to apply for any SSA benefits and those benefits are electronically deposited into your bank account. Personally, I would go to the trouble to get this corrected because I want any information the government has on me to be accurate so there is no potential of problems in the future.

Good luck,

Dave

CBP. Use the link in post #2 to find a deferred inspection site closest to you. They are usually at an international airport. I would go back to the SSA to get a printout with your name and SSN on it to help show the CBP the problem. You will need to go there and show them your passport and I-94 form.. I am assuming the I-94 is correct. Unfortunately the CBP scans the passport to create the I-94 but the information has to be manually entered in to the SAVEdatabase. Why this cannot be automated to prevent problems like yours is beyond me.

Good luck,

Dave
