Happy New Year everyone. I have been quiet on here for some time. I have a question. Is the timeline for AOS accurate here? We sent our AOS packet in back in May. In September we received a letter stating we have a Interview Waiver meaning they do not need to meet with us in person. They did say they have a backlog and my wife's GC could take up to 6 more months which means a March timeline. Does this seem correct? I want to go on a Cruise with my wife but must wait. Filing for AP now is $360 cost I believe. Yikes. Anyone else in same timeline or know if our timeline is correct?

Thanks

There are so many variables so everyone's timeline is going to be different so it really is impossible to say how long it will be, the information provided by CIS seems correct though. Filing for AP would still take 60 to 90 days so that isn't going to help you now. I will say though that the processing times that I've seen listed around the internet seem wildly inaccurate, even the timelines here on VJ seem way off or at least just reflect the slowest case.

It can be faster than 6 mo (some get it weeks after interview waiver letter) but yeah.. Can take quite a while. You can file for I-131 for free just include a copy of your I-485's I-797 notice of action (together with all other required documents) and the fee will be waived. Edited by agnesb

AP is free with I-485... The timeline for interview waiver is not always accurate, I had seen longer, i had seen shorter waits.

Good luck!

The six months that the Interview Waiver letter states are inaccurate. Most people get their approval faster (I got mine two months after the letter), while others unfortunately wait a lot longer. There is no rhyme no reason to the waiting times.

As others have stated, you can still apply for an AP for free as long as your I-485 has not been approved yet. Those unpredictable waiting times are one reason why I always tell people to apply for an AP with their I-485, because you never know when you might need it.

You do not need an explanation of why you want/need AP, nor do you need to know exact dates. Leave the date and length blank if you do not know them. When your print out the form, hand-write Unknown. Or, you can guesstimated the date and length for your trip.
