The attack happened on the night of Sept 11, 2012. He came out and made this statement the next day. I'm not sure what else people want from him.

The just released Senate report and the recently published intensive investigative report by the NYT both talk about the video more than a year and a quarter after the attack occured. Why? Because the attacks were not planned and plotted in advance but built on the protests that said video sparked in North Africa. Remember, the Senate intelligence committee report is clear that this was an opportunistic attack not something that was plotted far in advance.
