If you get approved for the K-3 visa all you have to do when you get here is file for AOS and EAD if needed. When you get approved for a CR-1 at the embassy, none of those things need to be done once the beneficiary enters the US.

This is true. If you can wait it out, the CR-1 is a superior visa.

However, my point is that IF the I-129F has already been approved and sent to the NVC (ahead of the I-130), you are now on the K-3 track.....you do not have the option of simultaneously pursuing a CR-1 (like you used to be able to do pre-November, 2006) without sending in additional money. From what we have read on the USCIS website and elsewhere on this board.....the NVC will hold-up the I-130....anticipating that the petitioner and beneficiary will pursue the K-3 and then adjust status. So don't hold off on submitting packet 3 for the K-3....in hopes of getting further information on the CR-1....it isn't automatically going to happen....from what I recall from another post, you must file another form and pay more money (and, of course, wait more time).

Good luck,

MIke

Hi to all the VJ's.!!! Just wanted to share my experience with OIM Colombia (Organizacion Internacional para las Migraciones) At the moment to receive the sealed envelope they give us a flyer with that info.

The OIM is giving discounts of 50% and 60% for the tkt just one way to NYC and Miami only.

So, I called on Monday and they told me I needed to send via fax:

1. OIM Form (downloaded from www.oim.org.co) http://www.oim.org.co/modulos/contenido/de...sp?idmodulo=287

2. Copy of the passport

3. Copy of the Visa

4. Printer of the reservation (only with Avianca "Y" fare) This "Y" fare is valid for 1 year. U need to go personaly to the office's Avianca and ask for the printer cause they dont give it to you online or by email.

The same day I went and I got the printer. I sent at the afternoon all these papers (fax 6224619 Bogota) and confirmed the fax (6227774 ext. 312 ask for Andres Arevalo) He is gonna tell u how much u need to pay at their account in Citibank , Account Number 5067477059. The price he gives u has already the discount. U have chance to send the copy of the receipt before Wednesday at middle day via fax. The same process u have to call and confirm it, and he tells u in 3 days you can go to Avianca's office and ask for ur tkt.

I called Avianca today and they told me I can go on Friday to pick up my tkt. And anyway if I want to use it earlier or later that they day I ask for I can do it cause the fare is for 1 year.

So the tkt one way to Miami it was COP $1.320.000 without the taxes for leave Colombia and get to US.

With the discount i just had to pay COP $902.400 included IVA and both taxes.

So its a good deal and just take 1 week for get the tkt. It can works for all of u are gonna spend some more time here in Colombia for any reason.

Ahh any other information u can call to the call center 01 8000 95 12 12.

I hope this help for some of you!

Irene :)

The reason I asked is because the original price for a Bogotá - Miami ticket for 04/27 is about $484 (about $1.044.000) but you still got it for less with the discount. It would've been nice to have seen it at $242 after the 50% discount though. :D

Hi Monokoke28:

In fact the tkts from Barranquilla to Miami are more expensive than Bogota to Miami.

When I made the reservation that was the price was about COP $1.300.000 without the taxes. At the end I paid about COP $400.000 less.

So if you decide to use the OIM it would save you some money :)

Hi Doug:Great to hear that! Congratulations to you both!!!!

have the rules changed for bogota? as the choice agent, does my wife now have to send me the supporting documents for the DS 230 instead of taking them to the interview? I have everything except the police records, should she get this now and send it to me? doesn't she have to get one from bogota where she lived for 2 years also? and doesn't this police record have to be a few months old(3 maybe) and not older?

open the PDF to read the instructions and tell me if i'm reading this right.

thanks

guys, i just called NVC and they told me that the supporting documents for the DS230 now have to be sent to NVC and not taken to the interview in bogota. when did this change? did i miss something? i thought the only thing that had to be sent with the DS230 was a copy of my wifes passport.

also, now that i have to ask my wife to get a police report, i asked NVC if she needed one from each city she has lived in, which would be barranquilla and bogota, but the NVC rep told me that she only needed multiple police reports if she has lived in more than one country. if this is so, do the police in colombia give one report that covers the entire country or does she have to goto bogota to get one from there? i'm a liitle confused after thinking i was on top of everything. please clearify, any help is appreciated

gracias

I'm not sure if the NVC part is correct. As far as I understand the documents that are submitted to NVC are based on each country. I found this info yesterday submitted by aussiewench in this post: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60974.

Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants (applying in Albania, Canada, Lebanon, Philippines, Turkey, United Arab Emirates or on the continent of Africa): http://travel.state.gov/pdf/applying_in.pdf

Instructions for Immigrant Visa Applicants (NOT applying in Albania, Canada, Lebanon, Philippines, Turkey, United Arab Emirates or on the continent of Africa): http://travel.state.gov/pdf/not_applying_in.pdf

I don't think people going through the embassy in Bogotá have to send in all documentation to NVC, just the DS-230 and copy of beneficiary's passport.
